An interesting note, even though I live fairly close to Topton (went to school in Kutztown, right outside), the only Caloric I've ever encountered was a pilotless coppertone model at a rummage sale. A friend who used to do gas work told me he encountered few Calorics, mostly Tappan and Kenmore instead. I think it's funny, since Topton has a street called Caloric Circle and you'd think the Lehigh Valley would be swimming in these old ranges. Anyone have more info?

Topton:

Was also home to Modern Maid. If memory serves, Caloric and Modern Maid merged or one bought the other or something. Perhaps someone else has more info.

I had a Modern Maid drop-in range in the St. Charles kitchen I had a long time ago. It was not my happiest experience with a range. But it was electric, so don't interpret that as a dig at Caloric or their quality.

I have a feeling that Caloric was all over the city of Philadelphia.  When I first came here that is the only gas range I saw.  They were mostly MOL to BOL equipment.  When you went to the gas company they were selling these ranges to their customers in the showroom.

When I moved to Philadelphia from Chester County, I moved into an apartment with a Caloric range. I was surprised because it was one of the double oven type with a small eye level oven, and lower larger oven with a broiler  and the cooking area was more like a cook top that was located in the center of the unit.  I always thought it was a terrible name for a product...but that is personal preference, however it worked ok.  I was not used to using gas so like those switching to electric from gas , I had to learn how to use gas, but after that It was ok.

Thanks for the info because I never knew where these ranges were manufactured.

I don't recall ever seeing a Caloric here in FL. I believe the PA factory was closed in 1991, not sure where Caloric was manufactured after that, but by then they were a branch of Amana/Raytheon.

I have a Caloric stove

I believe they were owned by raytheon for a while. Years ago, mom had a modern maid dishwasher that did a good job cleaning.

Caloric and Modern Maid were with McGraw/ Edison. They got bought out by Raytheon allowing Amana to have a full line. Raytheon washed their hands of any appliance business. Goodman got the air conditioning and left both Modern Maid and Caloric on the table. I liked Caloric and MM and was sorry to see them dropped. They made a gorgeous 36" 6 burner double oven range and pioneered electronic pilotless ignition and self cleaning gas ovens. In the seventis had I needed a gas range,Caloric was my first choice. Sold lots of them at Bernie and Harrys.
