Hi everyone,
I am looking at a KDS-37 SST which I understand was part of a stainless steel sink unit. I've heard the dishwasher is simply a KDS-17 but included in this one piece sink unit when sold new but I want to use the dishwasher as a built in under counter model in my kitchen without the sink. Does anyone know if this DW can be used completely without the sink unit?

Thanks!
Chris

Yes. You just need to remove the side panel (4-6 Phillips head screws) and then install the machine as normal. It has the same plumbing and electric connections as the KDS 17 (the model it's based on).

Good luck! Great machine; you'll love it!

Maybe..

You could install it without taking off the panel if you wanted to. If just depends on which side your connections will feed through. Leaving the panel on may provide a little extra sound proofing and insulation although I prefer using a roll of the wrap they make for water heaters. It's a foil like material on one side and the insulation on the other. Works really well for sound and heat.

Thanks gentlemen!!

I really appreciate the replies to my question. I'm excited to get this machine (it's actually being delivered to me by the owner) and will finish off my kitchen "return to the 60's" remodel.

Great point about the insulation - I'll be sure to use that to keep the sound down and heat contained.

Hurricane in a box...

Ralph is absolutely right about the insulation. If you can, I would even suggest spraying the whole tank with those Truck bed coatings in a can. It is like undercoating for the car. It will absorb the ringing sound of the tsunami hitting the tub surfaces and then the insulation will cut it further. You can wrap the top, sides and back and then replace that right side panel to hold it in place on that side to make it easier to slide into its opening.

Also, you should consider using the fiberglass alone without the facing paper inside the door as well. Just stay clear of the Detergent dispenser bi metals and the shafts for the cup covers. It will be obvious when you look at inside of the door where you should place it.

Once done, you will have only the sound of a Tropical Storm in a box! It is a great machine. I still would love to take the 17's electricals and put them into a 21 or 22 machine and get the benefit of the cycles and washing ability of the dual wash arms and the improved pump system.
