Beth Ann has a cat that really does talk. And I have heard it. Her car speaks VERY LOUD!

Anybody who's heard two male cats give warning howls at each other is aware of the vocal capabilities of the domestic feline.

I've had two male siamese cats, and each one has the same sort of greeting, that sounds somewhat like "hello". Since I usually don't say "hello" to my cats I think this is more a natural sound for them, rather than something they hear that they are trying to imitate.

I've also noticed that cats have a much different "vocabulary" for speaking to humans than they do for speaking to each other.

I have one that trys to talk. It has two sylables, sounds like Pepperoni Pizza to me. Could be Lasagna....

Jason-

I bet that BethAnn's cat might say something that could sound like "Pank Frigidaire!"

Oh, Don....what a handsome fellow. He looks a little like my dear departed LJ.

As soon as I have a postable picture of my new buddy, Boris the Bold Big (Russian) Blue, I will.

It's been a steep learning curve, learning the Russian Blue language after 7 (almost 8) years of Orange and White Tabby Chat.

Interesting facts...

According to researchers, cats have at least 10,000 different vocal sounds that they can articulate. Now that's quite a vocabulary.

And if you want a vocal cat, get a Maine Coon. Not only will they talk at you, they will talk back to you (and they seem to have some Dog like behavoirs as well.)

Wizard

I don't know what my Wizard is but he's very vocal. He has so many different ways of saying MEOW it's amazing. And he likes to talk back when I try to get him to get off the counter. "Wizzy, get offa there!" "ReOOOWWW!!!" He also has this little word that he says when he's being sassy, "NAH!" He says it really fast kinda like a spoiled kid going "NO!"

I like that last cat.

Oh my dog
Oh long Johnson
Oh Don Piano
Why I eyes ya
All the live long day.

Of course, he's singing about his weenie LOL.

The typical sound that a cat makes is "MEOW". That pretty much goes through every vowel sound a human can make. Say it slow "MEEIIAAAOOOUUUUW" And several consonants like P, M, and B but closing their mouths. So it's no wonder some cats are able to mimc speech. The easiest word seems to be "mama", and some cats say it automatically. My mom's last cat would say "meow-ma". Wizz can say "MA" without the second syllable.

Hoping a cat will say a word like "Frigidaire" might be a little far fatched, but it's probably not impossible.
