Oh, I just LOVE this . . .

I've always enjoyed a good "floating vee", whether it be on a car, a refrigerator, air conditioner, etc. I had no idea through that Philco made the entire handle an enormous floating vee! Just imagine how beautiful it would be in daffodil yellow . . .

I remember someone telling a story about these models, the door falling on the floor springs to mind but I'm not sure how that happened - a trick to the latch or something was worn out after a while... Pretty funny - but not at the price this seller is hoping for!

People who put such outrageously high starting bids on things such as this must be off their medications. Another example would be the pink Maytag's over in the Imperial forum.

This looks

like a case of money laundering. Nobody is going to pay a price like that unless some alterior motive is at play.

These people see a restored appliance web site and automatically assume theirs is worth nearly as much. Or, they think that simply since it is old, it is worth a lot. Did you notice the dents in the doors?

This model of Philco fridge is cool, I've seen them before and thought it was an ingenious design - you don't have to worry about buying another fridge with a door opening the opposite way if you move or remodel.

The most I've paid for one of my 4 antique fridges is $25.00 but I'm willing to spend more if the right one comes along.

1954

This is one that I've always wanted to see in person - the door latch is just too cool. I have a Philco appliance sales book with this model in it - some neat graphics and a pop-up model of the 2-Way Door. "Saves homemakers hundreds of steps each day!"

Also of interest is the control on this model, fully automatic refrigeration - just set it to "on" and forget it. 38-42F temperature control, no manual cold control to bother with. Separate freezer compartment holds a true zero. Breathtaking color styling - beautiful, luxurious and exclusive in the 1954 Philco Golden Automatic. Harmonizes with any kitchen setting.

How can you resist the 'buy it now' option?

I seen of like this before at a yard seal. They were giving it away. It was a dark brown I think they painted it not sure. I was about to take tell I open it. Turn the knob on the door and it open. The knob locks when it is open so no way to turn it the other way. Would have been even cooler to see the door fall off. lol

But this thing was way to nasty and not worth it. It had left over food blood and out of all things inside of it two dead rats. I passed on it.

To top it off they said if I take it they had a tv set I could also have. I got out of there and never went back.

If anyone wants I see if they still have it for you. But I do not think anyone would want such a nasty thing in there house.

Our neighbor who originally had an Econ-O-Mat that was replaced by the 1957 Lady had this refrigerator and a 40" Philco electric range. They bought them all at the Economy Auto store in our shopping center. The door did indeed fall off the latch one day, but did not land on anyone or anyone's feet. A son caught it. The father was pretty mechanical, so I think he got the door back on. He installed the Lady while the wife and son were in a Cub Scout meeting. He let me watch and gave me the little green plug that sort of sealed the drain port before the drain hose was attached.

Far more exciting was the time the father came home and glanced at what the wife was cooking. He made the comment that it might have been good the first time she ate it and walked past the refrigerator and turned to leave the kitchen. Silently and almost instantaneously, she slid from in front of the stove and while almost in front of the refrigerator, performed the first around the corner kick I had ever seen; successfully connecting with him as he was almost to the doorway.
