I picked up (who knows why, because of the cute bottle I think), a new bottle of "Clorox Washing Machine Cleaner". I think it's meant for HE only...but can't tell. It's exactly three uses, which means it's exactly three cups--says to add to the bleach dispenser. I think I just spent $2.99 on 3 cups of bleach! Thoughts? Anyone used it? Is it just bleach?

I just the label--does state that it can be used for regular and HE. I popped the bottle open and it smells like Clorox, looks like Clorox, is thick like a gel Clorox bleach...must be Clorox. I feel ripped. Hmph.

That reminds me of Tide's StainOut or whatever.

Just because it's from Tide does not make it any better. I can get generic enzyme bleach twice the amount for half the price and get the same results.

Same with detergents. Top of the line Tide or Gain are no more effective than bottom of the line stuff. The only detergent that I've found to be superior to anything on the US market is Ariel powder from Mexico.

Well, I gave it a whirl...it isn't just bleach, there is definately a detergent in there judging by all the suds. It's also "made for Clorox", so who knows. The machine had a fresh, clean scent (more than I can say for the other stuff), but the machine wasn't even dirty to begin with...so, might have someone try it on an old machine. I was concerned that it would stain my stainless tub, but putting it in the bleach dispenser seemed to do the trick.

And Furthermore

The idea of "cleaning" the tub and such of a washing machine with LCB is not new. Housewives from about the 1920's onwards got the same advice from various sources.

The idea is not so much to remove scale and lime residue, but to kill germs, moulds and such that supposedly will grow inside one's washing machine and contaminate future wash loads.
