My S.O. and I are major Looky-Loos when it comes to "touring" new homes. We are much too poor to give up our 1930's style bungalow, but find it interesting to scope out new construction. One thing we find interesting, is the amount of BOL kitchen appliances in new construction, even high end homes. ISE Badger waste disposers, GE/RCA/Hotpoint dishwashers which lack a soil seperator (food particle filter) and unvented microwave range hoods abound. I can't believe this kind of crap is still around. One has to fault GE/Hotpoint and it's BOL dishwashers of the last 30 years for starting the trend. Even old-style impeller dishwashers outperformed these POS machines. And don't get me started on the ISE badger disposers. I think ISE should rename them the "Clog-O-Matic." Fortunately, good appliances at reasonable cost are widely available.

I understand that GE puts together financial packages for contractors that are pretty hard for others to compete with... hence the common appearance of shoddy GE appliances in new construction. Their stoves are generally good, though - if you believe Consumer Reports.

Re: Certain Instances:

I've got some Friends who just moved last year into a Senior Citizen's Gated Community. They have a fairly "TOL" GE Gas Stove, with the newer Full Grate Burner Top, that includes Middle Grate coverage and it also has a Warming Drawer, instead of a Storage Drawer. It also has Electronic Digital Oven and Warming Drawer Controls.

They also have a fairly "TOL" GE Profile Dishwasher and a "TOL" Disposer. Unfortunately, the Dishwasher Rinse Agent Cover came loose recently and got under the Heating Element. I happened to notice it and got them the Model Number. It naturally wasn't a Stocked Item, it had to be Ordered, but there wasn't any charge to them, for the Part of Shipping.

They bought a "TOL" Estate/WP Dispenser Door Side-By-Side Refrigerator, from Sam's Club or Costco {whichever carries that "Badged" Brand and they really like it, as with all their other Appliances.

He had gotten a supposed great deal on their newer 2nd Hand GE Profile Washer and Dryer, but it is similar to the "MOL" Models, that are sold currently. I told her next time, let me know and I would help them to get any more new Laundry Machines.

I personally haven't been quite that much of a GE liking perons {ducks-n-runs} but I do like their Gas Stove and I have heard {not heard} their Dishwasher. It is really very quite running. Actually the only time I heard it, was when the Water was Draining through the Air-Gap Unit, then into the Disposer. It isn't even hardly noisy, even when it is Filling or Washing/Rinsing.

My parents house have MOL Maytag SS appliances. The range, DW, and microwave (with unvented hood) works pretty well. The Maytag DW impressed the hell out of me when it was able to wash Katrina muck off our old dishes from Chalmette. It took 3 or 4 times to get the Tupperware back in shape but it worked.

My... ahem... me and Helen's house will have MOL Kenmore white appliances. Not the Boschmore but the Kenmore DW with Smartclean. The Boschmore would've been overbudget, which I am already. And of course, those Pacific Blue Oasis will break the bank but oh well, it's my life. I picked a certain style of Kenmore appliances that you will definitely notice when they are installed.

Jason......

Just what were you trying to say??? Your _______. Does this mean that you "popped" the question or will be shortly?

Naughty, naughty on you if you will be living together and not be married! This coming from someone who met her husband while engaged to (and living with) another man! :)

Just teasing you! I am more than thrilled for you. Because of the house and of Helen!
