Dumont was the forerunner of Emerson.Beleive Emerson bought up Dumont in the older days.Very nice set!!!!Early TV history there.DuMont also built TV transmitters-those are rare and desired among transmitter fans.Sadly many got scrapped and replaced by later model RCA,GE,Gates transmitters.

Dumont

Was the Allen B Dumont industries, bought up in the late 50s by Emerson, this is a real Dumont though, the tuning is continuous like a radio.

I love the elitist decision to ignore the AM radio band. This TV was way ahead of its time!

I wonder how the "telephone" option worked.

I didn't see anything about a telephone option. I do know that early Zenith "Circlevision" round picture tube sets were often advertised as "provision for Phonevision" way back then. Dumont made some very pricey stuff. You've heard me talk about the applioance store I worked at 100 years ago...I used to have an old newspaper clipping of the owner standing next to this huge-screen Dumont console. He looks like a munchkin. The set had such a long tube that some owners had to have their front doors modified to accommodate it.

I'm a big fan of "The Honeymooners". The credits at the end of each episode say "filmed entirely on the Dumont Electronicam Television System". In the early days Dumont had their own network.

Dumont 30" Royal Sovereign...I think you needed a royal bank account to pay for it.

That's a nice set, I've got the table model here and it's easily a 2-person lift so if you go after this, bring some help.

The seller is probably looking at the shortwave band and listing what they see on the dial...aviation, amateur, and telephone (the old mobile frequencies). If I recall, this set might actually NOT have an AM band. Since TV audio is FM, and the tuner is continuous, it was easy enough to add 88-108MHz with no add'l equipment.

$99 is a great price, too.
