Today I had the pleasure of visiting an ENORMOUS rummage sale that featured a little of everything (an in some cases, a lot). I bought a '60s Vornado timer blender with chrome base as a house warming gift for a friend. It needs to be cleaned up, but I plugged it in and it works!

Also on sale was a '60s Westinghouse top-loader, complete with both agitators and Weigh-to-Save lid. It almost looked like it had never been used. Too bad my car isn't bigger.

Oh, can you get a pic of the Vornado blender?

That's a brand that sort of came and went in the 70s, here in Canada anyways. I had at one time one of their irons, too bad I still don't have it

Sorry, don't have a scanner or a digital camera. Vornado appliances turn up occasionally. I have a Vornado blow dryer, and I've seen Vornado coffee makers. The company only makes fans and industrial equipment now.

So much for the blender

Well, I got the Vornado home and was washing the plastic jar when it started to leak. Then the bottom cracked off! The plastic is so dry-rotted that it's beyond help. But hey, if anyone needs a chrome Vornado blender base...

Vornado blender

Company is still around they may still have the part, or at least the part number so a search can be done for it on the Internet.

The modern day

The original Vornado Company was owned by A.O. Sutton Corp. of Witchita Kannas from 1946 to 1958 and they made Air Circulators, and later Air Conditoners. After the original Vornado Company went out of business a store called Two Guys based in New Jersey bought the rights to the name and put it on blenders, mixers, irons, transistor radios, etc. mader by other companies from the early 60's to the late 60's or maybe into the 70's ( I am not sure of the exact dates). For example I have a Vornado Steam Iron that was made by Proctor Silex in the mid to late 60's. The current Vornado Company got its start circa 1988 making modern interpratations of the original Vornado fans and now makes a whole range of air care products.

Is this the same Vornado that owns/operates shopping centers? Only reason I ask is because there's a local s/c owned by Vornado that used to have a Two Guys in it. So it's either coincidental or just plain weird.

Side note: a stupid gag from high school was to say "Yeah, I'm goin' up Two Guys after school." Always got a big laugh. In hindsight, I guess we weren't very sophisticated. Or bright.

Replacement parts

The Vornado jar has a very odd drive mechanism. Most blenders use variations on the square bolt or "wagon wheel" designs. But the bottom of this jar has a round bolt with a cruciform shape cut into it, and the drive mechanism on the base looks like the tip of a flat-head screwdriver.
