The first apartment I moved into my sophomore year of college had the model below this one, but the same color. The knobs and all were the same. But only 1 8" burner, no clock, nor oven window. Fond mermories of that stove.
I'm thinking this one has a fluorescent work light. The switch is on the left end of the backsplasher, next to the convenience outlet.

It sure is clean, and matching Hotpoint hood is nice too.

It could also be a reset button for the outlet circuit breaker. But it does seem the top of the control panel is "much ado about nothing" if it doesn't actually have a work light.

wish one would show up...
