Can anyone provide a chronology on the Electromatics? I just picked up a Cornflower one today (complete with literature that I'm guessing is dated 1972) that's different from the early types. The basket clip at the top of the heating assembly is stationary. The actual basket sits on a spring, and the basket is pushed downward and under the clip to secure it. Also, the basket lid's edge is very sharp and I managed to slice a finger on it. The cap is very different looking, a flat but textured matte surface with a small clear plastic center. It reminds me of a blender lid. Gee, wasn't Corning a glass maker? Why the plastic? It appears that this particular top can only be used with the spring-loaded basket and heating assembly.
The Electromatics I remember had a clip on the heating element that flipped up and down to either secure or release the basket assembly. The carafe cap was smooth shiny black and sort of sculpted, and had a large glass center.
Indicator lights seem to have gone through a lot of design changes over the years. The one on mine is flush with the surface. Those I remember are raised, usually a bubble shape or on earlier models, a sort of diamond cut.
Older models also seem to have a little more stainless trim, like on the top area of the heating element that fits into the handle.
Do we have collectors among us who can provide approximate dates for the various design changes over the run of this unique and elegant series of percolator? After this find today, I'm wanting to get my hands on a real early one.
