On my Maytag DE806, the dryer always shuts off in less than one minute on the Damp Dry setting. This happens if the drum is empty (OK) or full of wet laundry. All the other settings work perfectly.

I know of one other DE806 that had the same problem. In fact, there is a video of a 906 shutting off in the same way on the Damp Dry cycle on You Tube.

Does anyone know what causes this and if there is a solution?

When you say "less than a minute" are we in the 5-20 second range?  If so, that might indicate that the "Damp Dry" resistor in the electronic control (470,000 ohms) may have failed.  IF that is the problem your options are:

1. Replace the offending resistor.

2. Replace the entire electronic control with a used or NOS unit.

3. Who cares?  Does anyone use damp dry to iron anymore???

Damp Dry

Thanks for your remedies. Too technical for me, but I can pass them along to my Maytag repair guru.

You're right - nobody irons damp dry clothing anymore. I do own a lot of 100% cotton sweaters that I do like to damp dry and then finish flat on a bed or table.

Never used 'damp dry'... yet!

Well, by golly, I'll have to try the 'damp dry' functions on '63 GE dryer and on the '65 de-gassed Lady Kenmore when I get back to Ogden... I have developed the habit of ironing the table linens and this function might help me out!
