Hello, I am trying to lube the damper pads on my washer and ordered the new kit from GRP (WPL 203956). The lube they included is not Poly lube specified for this machine but instead substituted small packets of Molykote 111. The parts bag says it was the correct part number and I cant figure out why they made this substitution since this is the correct part number for my machine? It says on the small packets that they are filled with a silicone based grease and silicone metaloid complex. Is this compatible for this job? If not I do have some Super Lube synthetic silicone grease with PTFE and some dielectric grease (permatex) I could use? Appreciate any help! My wife is losing her patience with having her washer down...lol.

That substitute stuff sucks and they stopped using it.You can buy the correct stuff separately.I disagree you can use anything there is no known substitute for maytag polylube. The latest packages of damper pads have the polylube.

One more question. The pads on there look in ok shape to me. Maybe I should just clean them up a bit and lube em again? They sure look good for 22 years old and a million loads. Maybe they'll run a few more years? Those pads are glued to stay thats for sure. Seems like it would be really tough to get them off without taking the brake off and tub out? Ive read that most seem to do it that way. I don't have the special factory brake removal wrench and they are now impossible to find. Its a little spooky though cleaning and lubing them with all that weight and metal ready crush my fingers.

And in good condition just relube them, the only thing that makes these damper pads ever fail is they get dry of lubricant and then get torn loose from the pressure.
You don't need the silly brake removal tool to take the brake assembly out. just grab the edge with a large Vice-Grip pliers and smack it with a hammer and that's all it takes to loosen the brake, it works much better than the brake tool and you are less likely to get hurt when the brake tool slips off.

The pads on there look in ok shape to me.
Pads intact and in good shape; just lube and check on them from time to time.
If one should come loose in the future then replace. For lube use 100% silicone grease if you have it on hand.

Since I had to do one in the field, I'd thought I'd share the process to let people see how it's done and how easy it is, thereby saving you the heartache of a destroyed damper.. Here goes! In the field, there isn't always room to spread out but there is more than enough room here to get it done.
