Hey gang -
Several years ago I was doing some research through the old Grainger archives and ran across some catalogs from the 70's that listed out the different laundry solenoids that Grainger sold then, with the original MFG item number. The lists in the catalog were always brief and indicated that a full line reference sheet was available, the 5S1002. For the life of me I could never find it in the archives at corporate (I guess any copies were tossed years ago).
Fast forward to today, and I've been researching parts to gather for the restoration of my 1957 Bendix Duomatic. The original pump solenoid (18420) was shot and I recalled Grainger still sold several of those old solenoids (2x868). I did some eBay sleuthing and found a guy selling 12 of the 2x867 in the original box, which cross over to the Duomatic shifter solenoid (17616). I bought two from the seller and low and behold, inside one of the boxes was the 5S1002 reference sheet - dated March of 1964!
Believe it or not, but ALL solenoids are still available from Grainger as listed (as of May 2017), with the exception of the 4x318. Act fast if you need the commonly used 2x868 for your Bendix or Philco-Bendix front loader. This solenoid is used on the pump for almost all bolt down, Gyromatics, and Duomatics, as well as the transmission shifter solenoid for the bolt down and Gyromatics, and is being discontinued by Grainger. There are still several left in the system, but grab a spare now while they are still in stock.
Hopefully this is helpful to folks in the future!
