Trouble comes in three's so it is said and this past month has borne that out. Firstly a few weeks ago just as we were starting our quarantine our tv went on the fritz, no power. It was a Samsung 40" perhaps about 10 or so years old. I was already nervous about going out shopping but I raced over to Best Buy and grabbed a 50" TCL, probably the lowest cost tv available. Shocking how light the thing is but hey, it has a great picture. The only thing that worries me is there are no tv controls at all on the tv itself, everything is done with the remote including turning it on.

Next came the toaster oven two weeks ago.

Which led to number 3 last Thursday. Once again the id.. er loving gentlman I have lived with for 37 years overloaded the washer and basically broke the assembly. When I say overloaded I mean it.. I could barely extricate the stuff that was in there it was so jam packed. When I finally got it out and onto the floor I guestimate it weighed about 100 lbs.. Numerous thick hoodies the really thick ones, a pair of jeans, a couple of bath towels, shirts, tees, underwear, socks.
To say I was furious would be an understatement. The F word and the lords name were flying.
Yes the machine was getting on and we'd only had it for barely 2 years.. I got it from the neighbors who were curbing it for no other reason that it didn't match their new dryer. Worse was I aquiesced when he brow beat me into getting rid of the trusty old Filter Flow because it was taking up space. So no backup.. This isnt the first machine he wrecked from overloading. He did the same with my little apartment sizer when we first moved in together 37 years ago.. within 2 years that was wrecked.. and I've been on him ever since about overloading but it seems to fall on deaf ears. Amazing how that GE filter flo could take it, but his laundry always stank because the clothes couldn't circulate, there was no room for it to circulate, there was barely any water in the machine because there was so much clothes in there . well you get it. LOL.

And now with this covid thing and the stores all closed I had to resort to buying a new washer online and missed out on the fun of real life shopping for a new washer... I've been reading everyones threads etc.

I made a vow, after the all the troubles we'd had with two KitchenAid dishwashers that a Whirpool made product would never darken our door again so they, and all their progeny, were struck from the list of new washing machine contenders.

I also kept reading too many negatives on Samsung. Speed Queen (Heubsch here in Canada) are expensive and not widely available. Heck I don't even know where I'd get one and didn't want to wait.

Long story short I went with an LG. Yeah I hear negatives about them but also a lot of positives and they along with SQ top the reliability and performance ratings in CR for washing machines. I do somewhat trust their reliability ratings because they are garnered from the actual membership,, not just anyone can fill out their questionairreres, you have to be a paid subscriber, that filters out a lot of spammers.

And with that here it is..just delivered an hour or so ago and still on the back porch a new LG WM3700. Heck I just read the manual and this thing is quite feature packed with stuff we'll probably never even use.. Something about downloading additional cycles,, holding your phone to the machine so they can analyze what's wrong with it. I didn't buy the pedestal yet, those things are pricey. I'll wait a while and see how I like it that low down,, and with any luck one will show up at the Habitat Restore,, they often have washer pedestals in there and I think LG's all fit the same LG pedestals regardless of model, at least the newer ones.

I am kind of excited to get it in the house and going.. It's been a horrible month, horrible weather, although yesterday was beautiful and sunny and warm, today is back to mierable gray and raining and cool..

Had one just like it

I hope you get lots of good years service from your new machine. A friend of mine has a sister who uses her machines like that guy you're talking about, she also had a duet, didn't last 10 years, now on a Maytag set, could be toast now too.
Oops, sorry for the bad reminder :).

Well it's in and all set up. Here's a link to a few seconds of the inital rinse/drain test.. .

It passed so I have a load in there now. On heavy duty with warm wash and hi speed spin.. and it shows as 2;20 mins.. yikes.

Seems like the steam function is only for the so called Allergiene cycle and the tub cleaning,, at least that's what I have so far figured out,, could be wrong.

One thing I will say, this machine is quiet. I thought the Duet was quiet, this is much quieter..

Now I can try and figure out how to connect it to our wifi so I can see what these "extra" cycles are all about [this post was last edited: 4/29/2020-16:03]

Well I hope you made him pay for this machine, I wouldn't put up with that at all, this is a guy who doesn't know what he is doing. If you continue to let him do his laundry like that, this machine will be toast in no time. You really should think about who should be doing the laundry in your household. Just my two cents on this issue.

Congrats on your new machine! Now you will have to run out and buy water hammer arrestors that screw into the back where the hoses connect to the machine at the valve. Why I say that you might ask? Well these washers use “ pulse filling” meaning they open and close the water valves so fast when you first start the washer that if you have high water pressure, you will get ungawdly water hammering of the pipes....not to mention your toilets in your home will groan at thier valves. The water hammer arrestors are essential....if you think not, try it without and see what you think....

the hammering can also damage pipes.  One reason why I haven't considered LG in the past.  All my pipes are in my foundation.  Even with aerators, I still have uneasy thoughts.  And if you ever are able to get the WiFi working and can see all the extra cycles available, I'd love to know what they are.  Form what I understand, they are all preset, but I'd still like to know the details.  I end up using my specialty cycles on my Duet more than I use the standard ones.

I got the wifi working. It took as long or longer to get the app connected to my phone and then the washer connected to the phone/router .

I checked out the downloadable cycles and they are grouped as such ;

Size;
full load wash, half load wash, single garments and small load (4 cycles)

Stain;
Baby clothes , gym clothes, sweat stains (3 cycles)

Fabric Care;
Beachwear, Color Care, Delicate Dresses, Denim, New Clothes, Swimwear (6 cycles)

Environment:
Econowash, Overnight Wash, Rainyday (3 cycles)

So a total of 16 more cycles on top of the 12 on the control panel .

The cycles are one use only. Once it is over it is gone and you would have to choose it again from your phone on the app.. However you can make any of them "favorites" on the app so you don't have to scroll through looking for one

I can't see either of using this function at all however it is nice to see where the washer is in it's cycle and how much time is remaining without having to be at the washer, plus it signals your phone when the cycle is done.

I've done 2 loads already and didn't experience any water hammering at all. I did have that issue with the Kitchenaid dishwashers though. Perhaps because the laundry room and it's piping go through the floor whereas the kitchen plumbing was along the basement ceiling.. hard to say

As for not having the pedestal.. right now it doesn't seem to be an issue and if having one added leads to more vibration I wouldnt want one THis thing is very smooth running..

doing laundry properly

You would think he'd learn how to do laundry properly. NEVER! EVER stuff a machine! Always sort everything properly and use the correct cycles! I use the normal cycle or whites if available as is the case with my Kenmore elite, or normal on my mom's lg. The only thing that changes is the temperature according to color.

Thank you very much.  Doesn't look like there's much of anything I'd use, maybe denim. I doubt any of the combinations  yields any additional fabric types that would add steam/hotter water to essentially Towels or Perm Press cycles on the default cycle dial settings--not having a heater option (meaning steam) for those two cycle/fabric types bugs me to no end about LG.  (maybe baby stains)

OMG, the washer has to google specialty cycles?  Then forgets them??  Pardon my technosaur but that's going too far.

With all that razzmatazz going on, perhaps it has a child lock that your dear one could not figure out.  A password, like "password".

Oh wow

You should absolutely REFUSE to let him touch this beautiful machine.

My duet just turned 15....Yes, 15 years old this month.

@ appnut - My pipes are in my foundation as well, but what do you mean you have unease thoughts even with aerators?

Mark, if any plumbing issues developed that required attention (leaks), it's expensive because you have to jackhammer, drill into the foundation and trench out to get to the pipes. Not due to a plumbing issue, but having my master bath shower made more access-friendly, this had to be done. It gets expensive!!!
