I recently picked this up and am wondering if anyone can help me figure out what it may have come off of and the age of this and perhaps its value? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is a motor . . .
. . . from an early Bendix front loader washing machine -- the kind that was bolted to the floor.
The side with the pulley was in the rear of the machine with the belt on the pulley attached to the larger pulley on the tub thereby causing the tub to rotate for the washing/spinning action. The pulley is attached to the speed changer that caused the tub rotation to speed up for the spin cycle. The solenoid switch which caused the famous Bendix "thump" would determine whether the speed changer ran fast or slow.
The other end of the motor (the front end) houses the water pump which empties water from the machine. Another solenoid switch also causing the famous Bendix "thump" would open a valve to allow the wash/rinse water to flow from the tub into the pump to be spewed out the drain hose.
Please don't destroy this motor and mechanism. Somebody somewhere is surely trying to find one to replace their's that no longer works.

My Baby . . .
. . . Bendix is a 1944 model, and it has the same motor assembly. My machine is the round kind.
Someone in the club has one of the original Bendix machines, 1938 I believe. It would be interesting to know if that one has the same motor/transmission/pump assembly.

Bolt-Down Bendix Motor Assembly
Hi Eric, yes this is a Bendix motor, transmission and drain pump assembly from a bolt-down Bendix, the identification tag on the motor shows that this motor is from 1947.
This may be a value to someone that has an old Bendix washer they are trying to fix or restore, amazingly there are still a lot of these motor assemblies still around, Bendix sold millions and millions of these washers before WW2 and for about a decade after the war till other companies took over most washer sales from Bendix. The mentality and thriftiness of many people of the generation when these washers were sold meant that they often saved the motors from old washers before getting of them, so there are still a lot of them around, as to its value I would guess anywhere from $5-50 if someone really wants it.

my 1939 Bendix has a very different transmission than this model. Bendix went thru several design changes from its introduction to the 1940's. They probably sold upwards of 300,000 units before the war. I have the exact figure from their 1939 stockholders report of which I have a direct copy.
They were huge before WW2 - the report showed the stockholders where Bendix was being sold =, they had dealers all over the world by 1939 with one in Peiking !!

I ended up making a deal with the seller of the motor. It arrived in the mail today. I'm hoping with this, I'll be able to get a second Bendix up and running.
