Howdy Folks! I seem to recall someone on one of these threads has a system that will tell the month and year a Maytag washer was made by decoding the serial number.

My S/N is 38615VL. I'm thinking it's from the early 60's? Can anyone confirm?

Thanks,

Larry

Here's the link to the thread where I posted the Maytag serial numbers.

What's the model number of the machine? I don't see that particular date code coming up in the 1960s as an automatic according to this chart. Or is it a wringer? In that case it's June of 1964. Would have a red wringer release bar & black agitator.

E2L

Right you are! It's a wringer model E2L, red release handle and came with a black agitator. Now I also know it came off the line in June of 1964.

Thanks!

From 1954-1960 on wringer machines the letter at the beginning of the number was the year code and the letter at the end was the month code. So, July 1954. If this machine has its original agitator it should be made out of red bakelite.

turquoise agitator

Me too. Mine came with the black agitator but was broken when I got it. Then it REALLY got broken trying to get it off. Took me 4 days to get that rusted spline off. Now I have a shiny new turquoise agitator. Just arrived today. A multi-generational machine!
