In the '80s and '90s,italian made DeLonghi small appliances were sold here in the
U.S.;all kinds of electic heaters and i kinda remember toaster ovens too.Anyone
have any DeLonghi or know what became of them?-I have two DeLonghi oil filled
"radiator"heaters-one from 1984,another from '93;these heaters were one of this
companys big sellers over here along with "fan"heaters-patton sold a similar fan
heater around the same time and it looks like patton may have bought the innards
for their heater from DeLonghi as they are the same with the radial nicrome element
and quiet, low speed,2-blade fan. There are asian knock-offs of DeLonghi type fan
fan heaters, but you can tell the difference...

yep, looks like they are still around-can't tell if they are still made in italy
though, the small appliances at least. This thread reminded me that i did see a new
DeLonghi"split"type AC unit a couple years ago and it was made in italy.

scooped from Wikipedia ; Mostly Chinese made now it seems.. I'd forgotten about them buying out Kenwood..

History and tradingThe company was founded by the De'Longhi family in 1902 as a small industrial parts manufacturing workshop. The company incorporated in 1950. Historically a major producer of portable heaters and air conditioners, the company has expanded to include nearly every category of small domestic appliances in the food preparation and cooking, as well as household cleaning and ironing, segments. De'Longhi is especially well known for the Artista Series espresso machines and Pinguino portable air conditioner.

De'Longhi is renowned for their design, which they describe as drawing from the rich heritage of Italian design. Their Esclusivo line of kitchen appliances won the prestigious Red Dot design award in 2007. Additionally, Home Furnishing News recognized De'Longhi Design Director Giocomo Borin as one of the 50 most influential designers in the world in 2006.

De'Longhi's 2001 acquisition of the struggling British appliance maker Kenwood Limited gave De'Longhi access to Kenwood's Chinese factory. As a result, many of De'Longhi's products are now made in China, while design and engineering remains in Italy.

In all, De'Longhi operates thirteen production facilities and thirty international subsidiaries supporting sales to seventy five countries worldwide. International sales account for nearly 75 percent of the group's total revenues, which topped EUR 1.63 billion in 2010.

Chinese-Italian engineering alliance I can think of is spagh

And perhaps not even that! ;)

Sadly most of the DeLonghi production is now Chinese!
Our old split air conditioners, DeLonghi branded of course, were made in Italy, we're talking about the 90s, now the brand new ones, are made in China (Midea sourced) and just re-labelled De Longhi, of course the price for the 3-split unit was the same as a single-split unit in the 90s! I don't think this new machine will outlast the old ones...
The Italian made A/C units are sold under Clivet and ClimaVeneta names and are for the professional market only, no more direct retailing and still keep all their quality.

Anyway, I have a Keenwood machine and I swear that nothing compares to it when it comes to performance and results! Ahhh, I wish I had one of the new Cooking Chefs! But they are so expensive!

too bad the consumer stuff is chinese now-i really like the two oil filled
DeLonghi heaters i have;almost noiseless and much safer for unattended use than
radiant heaters that can ignite flammables that get too close.

Kenwood Major

I have a 20 year old British built Kenwood Major. It's a workhouse.

IIRC from another thread here, the Viking Mixers are Kenwood (Delonghi)

I also have a DeLonghi dehumidifier. Actually it's my second one. It's a DEM10. The first one broke down and was sent to Italy for repair, but the thing seemed to have disappeared. The store decided to replace it because it happened within the warranty. That was a few years ago. I didn't use the second one very much, but this one is broken now too. The condensor doesn't seem to work anymore. Because it's beyond the warranty I'm not going to have it repaired. If I buy another one it will not be a DeLonghi.
