Hey Everyone,
I am a little reluctant to start this thread, and if no one replies I'll swallow my pride move on.
Recently I've developed an allergy to my underarm deodorant that will require me to switch brands. My question to everyone is: Are there any brands that does the job and NOT leave stains on clothing. I think we all can agree that many clothes
are not cheap, and I don't want to spend large amounts of money on new shirts and undershirts because of unsightly stains. I used to use 5 Day, it did the job and my wardrobe is still in good shape. I realize that everyone is different, but I was wondering what is the best brand out there.
 
i dont use ANTI-PERSPIRANTS. those are the ones with aluminum ingredients in them. they are designed to clog the pores. most people say deodorant when they really mean anti-perspirant. i use speed stick in musk. its not an anti-perspirant so it doesn not harden like glue. it washes clean out. David
 
I'm using Lynx Africa body spray deodorant at the moment with no problems, has been my favourite for months now and people say it smells so sexy, plus what's even sexier is that I don't have any skin irritation or stains left on my underarms - is that brand available in the US?

I use a deodorant that my dermatologist recommended. It is a deodorant crystal, it contains natural mineral salts, and ammonium alum. This is only my 2nd one in 3yrs. They should be available at any health food store that has a bath and body section.
 
Tom's of Maine, tree-hugger deodorant

I normally use a "bad" anti-perspirant with aluminum ingredients.

I am out at the moment and my back-up is *Tom's of Maine* which is a deodorant (not an anti-perspirant) is doing just fine now that it is winter here. [I'll let you know if I hear otherwise. LOL]

It does not stick to where applied (i.e. comes off real easy in the shower), and appears to wash off clothing nicely.

The fragrance is *natural* botanicals and I find it to be mild, and un-offensive. I personally can't stand too much fragrance *under there*. That is a *crime* I think MANY deodorants are guilty of.
 
see, salvo, you were unsure about starting what you prolly though was a dubious thread and now you got all this input! you even got what i call "TSA" (toggles stamp of approval). i agree about too much perfume "under there". if you dont wear cotton undershirts, and its understandable not to, anti-perspirants may be the only thing that can tame wetness. David
 
Speed Stick

thats what I use, in deodorant form NOT Anti-perspirant.
You should be able to pop the tops in the store and have a look, just be sure to buy something clear, and not a white solid.
My favorite is Speed stick Ocean mist.
 
Old Spice Sport scent deodorant, available in industrial 3-pack size at Sam's Club...

I swore off the aluminum pit stick stuff when some studies came out years ago that linked aluminum to Alzheimer's disease. I tried that health food tree hugger crystal thing, and my pits never smelled worse.

Jeez Louise, can we please get back to appliance talk?
 
I've bought deodorant a couple times by mistake. I guess I do have some bit of perspiration because I do better with antiperspirant. Considered trying the crystal stick product, but didn't take the plunge. Antiperspirant does tend to be ornery about washing away so I sometimes skip a day or two.
 
I get the biggest kick out of this group. No matter what out of the ballpark thread comes up, it can always be related to the washer. After all, when you have stinky, yellowed underarm shirts, where do they end up? You guessed it. Maytagville! I use what polkanut uses-a mineral crystal. I just picked one up in Maine for the heck of it because I don't use anything with aluminum chlorowhatever it is. I am amazed at what a good job it does, and no stain on shirts. It controls B.O. on me, but this may be individual body chemistry as well. It may not work for everyone. I would give it a try, though. And it's cheap. I bought my crystal about a year ago and it is barely worn. I think it cost~ $10.

Wow, I really thought there wouldn't be much interest in this thread, but as Bobby said it does end up in the wash. I'm just a little red faced here.
I didn't realize about the clear and white, but that would make sense. Have switched to Arm & Hammer for now. Also, I don't think Lynx Africa is available in the States, have never seen it. I can honestly say that I've never thought of the health food stores, that may be worth looking into.
Consumer products seems to always change, and at times, not for the better. I've used 5-Day forever, so this was venturing into unchartered territory. It sure is maddening when a product line no longer works for you or when its discontinued altogether, kind of like losing a best friend. I thank everyone for their input.
 
Mitchum Mountain Clear Gel

It smells great and does not stain clothes (actually says so on the label, and it's true). Effective and long-lasting...
 
Old Spice "Fresh" deodorant in the winter and same fragrance anti perspirant in Summer. You know us swarthy Mediterranean types!!

Used to love Aqua Velva ice blue deodorant and antiperspirant, but like everything else I have grown accustomed to - it no longer exists......
 
My Secret

Am I the only one bold enough to admit that I use Secret Platinum with Olay??? LMAO I have been using Secret for YEARS. It is an unbelievable anti-perpirant and the scents are very light. Most allergic reactions are to the aluminum or the fragrance. Trial and error will tell you which. Oh, BTW, PH balanced for a woman?? Who wants to buy a bridge??

I'm still using right guard. I use the powder dry spray flavor. I'm unfortunattly one of those people who need something strong. I sweat alot because of my job, especially in the summer. I've tryed sticks, other sprays and RG seems to work the best.

No staining from RG for me, however i,ve heard from other people who couldnt use RG because they said it burned when they put it on.

It's the pits!

The mister kind of had the same allergic reaction to the Old Spice High Endurance clear roll-on. He tried Mitchum, but thought it didn't last as long. We went back to the original formula (which, I assume, has less alcohol?) and saved his armpits!

Most guys have a distinct disadvantage when using anti-perspirants and deoderants....hair! Therefore, using a dry roll-on (like Mitchum) tends to pull out those pit hairs, not providing full coverage, and making deoderizing a real PITA! Women, on the other hand, shave; making the use of aerosol deoderants excruciating! OY! I remember those Right Guard spray days in junior high gym. There were lots of screaming adolescent gals in our locker room! The fumes were great though. ;-)

I think that is a common problem. Both my partner and myself had that problem no matter what brand of antiperspirant we used, that is until we got out ASKO washer. The only thing that solved that problem was to wash t-shirts at the 205 degree temp everytime. I think the hot temp prevented a "build up" of the stuff and kept them clean. Maybe it is just a body chemistry thing for some people, because as I have read here not everybody has that problem. So the solution for me was the 205 degree boil wash in the ASKO, but now with the Bosch having a lower high temp, I have to buy t-shirts more often. If only the ASKO could have been more reliable. :(
 
Another alternative....

If you are really allergic to deoderants/antiperspirants and suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis, I think), there are Botox treatments that may help. Botox isn't just for eyebrows and lips anymore!

abcomatic here, I use old spice high endurance pure sport. I think anti-persperants are dangerous to use. There has been research done on the matter and the aluminium used in it can cause cancer in labratory rats. You are not a rat but I would think twice about using it. The old spice isnt too fragrant but does a nice job. Shower everyday and you are good to go. Good luck. abcomatic
