Is it me or has Marketing just gotten too weird over the decades?
I know these started 10 or 20 years ago, but who's brainiac idea was it to have "kitchen-centric" brands put on laundry products?

KitchenAid washers and dryers?
Magic Chef washers and dryers?

Makes no sense to me.....and I would actually avert from buying them.....maybe it's just me :P

Yes, it does seem a bit odd having kitchen names on washers...

But it could be fitting. Don't we all dream of having a washer in the kitchen just for kitchen linens? At least, that gives an excuse for multiple washers... Although frankly I'd probably choose something other than a WP DD for kitchen use. WP DD machines aren't available in decorator colors like avocado (seems fitting for a kitchen!), and don't have neat features to wow guests, such as a Magic Minute, or an agitator that bounces up and down.

The other name that gets me is Hotpoint when used on refrigerators (think HOTpoint).

Whirlpool and Kenmore and Frigidaire and others sell (or have sold) a full line of branded appliances -- washers, dryers, ranges, cooktops, wall ovens, freezers, refrigerators, dishwashers, trash compactors, microwave ovens, range hoods, air conditioners.  What's the distinction between a general "appliance" brand and a "kitchen-centric" brand?  Consumers tend to have an urge to outfit a home with one matching brand of everything.

Well, kitchen-centric or not, a KitchenAid DD washer is the only top loader from the 90s and early 00s that I would ever have. I've never been a fan of Whirlpool and Kenmore DirectDrives, but the KA was a completely different animal. I never understood why WP didn't just adapt that design across the board, especially once they dropped the KA name from their laundry line in place of Maytag.

Well I guess there are reasons I'm an engineer and not a Marketing manager lol.
It just seems to me a KitchenAid WASHER would dilute my brand from it strong suits....cooking products, dishwashers, mixers etc.
Even though they probably had the best DD washer architecture.
You'd think Whirlpool would just put that tech in their WP Gold brand as a flagship.

Haha! Yeah. That's weird too, the Hotpoint fridge.
My grandparents had one. With an older Hotpoint logo.

Ok I'm done now :P

But John... If you're a real "Magic Chef", you clean up after yourself...including washing your dirty apron! Hahahahahaha ;-)

Any videos of a DD KA washer working-would like to see it.Might be a good one to look for at the appliance swap place.Remember seeing one in a freinds house-he hasx moved-never watched the machine work.

I've yet to find any good videos of a true KitchenAid, probably because their hayday was before easy mobile cameras and YouTube, but this is the next best thing. I love the way this guy speaks! But yes, in this video (the second one is actual agitation, the first is explanation) you'll see how well the larger KA agitator rolls a comforter over on the motor's medium speed, which was the "high speed agitation" speed on a real KA.

He switches it to the 180 opm "fast" setting for a few seconds, which you can see is just ridiculous, but like he said, that would put some pretty bad wear on the components if used regularly with normal sized loads. The comments on the video below saying to "keep it at fast speed, it will cause NO wear" had me chuckling. You have fun with that, kid, and you'll have a very short lived DD on your hands, lol.
