Is there an easy way to cross reference the motors across different brands? I see a motor #W10226459 on eBay and I'm wondering if it would fit my KUDM220T

Motor Match up

The 21 and 22 series machines use the same exact motors and pump parts. They only work in those models The 23 was the first of the whirlpool Powermodule style pumps and as has been mentioned many times on this forum, WP made the opening in the tub smaller to accommodate the Powermodule. So they are not backwards compatible.

Here is the part number you need to look for: 4163523 which covers both series. It is also the part number for the pump motr, seal and start relay.

If you are in need of a motor, I have a couple of used ones that I am willing to part with. Sorry, but the complete one NIB stays with me. At least for the time being.

Thanks guys! Stevet, do your used motors include an intact plastic cooling fan? I believe this is the problem with mine. I understand the motor can be removed and the fan epoxied back into place. If I'm going to the trouble to remove the motor I'd like to have a good one to drop back in and I'll save my "glued" one for a back-up.

Are you a gambling man?

If you are, you might just get away with transferring the complete pump assy from the old motor to the new one but I would always put in a new seal so that it is properly adjusted ,i.e. shimmed to the proper working height as per the instructions included in the seal kit,
That way, you have the seal doing its job and then you shim the impeller for its optimum operation as well.

I would "bet" everyone on here will also say to replace the sealwhen installing a new motor.

Replace The water Seal Or Not

On a DW this old you have a 99% chance that you should replace the seal assembly, the rule I use if you can't see the difference from the old seal and the new one the old one MAY be OK to use.

I apply the same rule to drive belts in washers and dryers, if the old one looks as good as the new one you can reuse the old one.
