Wandering through Goodwill, I saw a boxed net intended to secure one's dishwasher load. I think it might have been the one shown at this link:

Interesting idea--I recall from when I was lucky enough to have a dishwasher to use that light stuff did tend to get flung about. Although I wonder how well it works in practice...

 
 
You can achieve much the same effect by placing a small rack over the portion of the load that might go flying, like the rack from a small oven or microwave oven. If you do not have one of those, a cooling rack will work. I used to use an oven rack to cover the top rack when I washed those big red 16 oz. party cups which I used at work when we had the water dispenser.

 

The trouble with this stretchy cover is that its effectiveness would be determined by how many taller items were in the top rack and how close they were to the little bowls that might flip over.
