Hive mind, please. My normal washing situation in Michigan is 20 year old large capacity Kenmore DA, softened water, cold basement/40 degree cold water. I know pretty well how to dose Persil/Tide versus Gain versus bargain-brand single-enzyme products; and how to handle water temperature. Slight froth on surface is what I normally get and am looking for, and usually get that while following Persil/Tide's recommendations (1/3 capful medium load, 1/2 full)
Finishing up out here in the desert for the next few weeks, with hard unsoftened city water, 65 degree cold water/close by water heater and a couple of different washers (2 year old Whirlpool VMW with auto-sense and a 12 year old Frigidaire stack with indexing tub/str8 vane) and I'm having trouble figuring out how much more to use.
The auto-sense has fooled me several times (small load of white synthetics--socks/jocks/underwear filled with water right to the brim...). I'm a bad desert rat and do second rinse on the Frigidaire, so feel OK dosing heavily, but do I bump it up marginally (1/2 and 2/3), does the warmer water offset the dosing, etc etc.
