My sister gave me some samples of these little black pouches with little white tablets in it. It says to toss them in your washer prior to loading with clothes. You then add your detergent and fabric softner as usual. Has anybody used them?

I'm a little leary of using them for various reasons:

1) I don't want to damage my Duet HT

2) The scent is extremely strong. I can't stand to wear clothes where the scent comes into the room before I do. I left them in my car for an hour while I shopped. I about died when I got back into the car from the scent.

3) My wife has allergies to certain types of laundry additives and detergents. We can safely use Tide and Downy with no problems.

I don't use dryer sheets! I only put them in our closet as an air freshner.

My Mom once used the clothes dryer spray "Cling Free" in her 1968 Hamilton Gas Dryer when I was growing up. Withing two weeks her dryer started to give her trouble. It never did work right again after that. She finally bought a Maytag set in Dec. 1976. She never did use dryer sheets in the Maytag and it lasted well over 20 years.

Just curious! I'm thinking about just throwing them away!

I've been curious to try them too. Or the Purex Crystals. I do like some fragrance in my clothes. If they are that strong, maybe try using half the amount they suggest. I've used strong smelling detergents and softeners over the years and for me, usually by the time I pull them out of the dryer, the scent isn't overwhelming. If you do decide to try them, let me know what you think.

The Downey is for smell only.  The pruex does soften but won't help with static.  My wife bought the Purex Crystals and these are ok.  We have found half a dose or less is ok bt they are strong so if your wife has algeries they might not be good to use.  The Purex is sugar based for the crystals.  We have the uellow bottle Tropical I thinl.  IN our Frigidaire FL we use about 1 tablespoon and on towels and sheets.

Finally used Downey Unbstopables

I used the Downey Unstopables this past weekend. I used them in the tee shirts/shorts I walk in. I also used them on my sweaty paint clothes and my wife's dress clothes (she works in an office). Everything came out with a nice clean light scent. I used them on a load of towels this morning. Once again a nice clean light scent in the towels.

I have not checked to see what the cost is at the store.

As of this writing I really like them!

Peace,
David

Powder Version?

I ordered a free sample from Downy or P&G, and it is a powdery packet. Remind me not to mistake it for Kool-Aid, as it smells like that, and I do not have the urge to open it, let alone throw it into my wash load.--Laundry Shark

Hey thanks for the feedback, David. I was going to purchase some from WalMart this past week, but it seems this is the week they aren't carrying them. Considering they were there the week before. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks again!

I have gone away from scented stuff.. All this scent stuff is just adding more garbage to the air.. Doesn't lead to good IAQ in your home in the winter!

I did try the Purex Crystals... Yikes the scent was strong! I made a mistake doing this on my bed sheets, and the first night I slept in it, I could not sleep due to the scent being so strong, and I had a headache.

I use about tbs of it and still strong...
