Dryer Stand Ideas

Have a few weeks before the AEG set arrive and need to sort out what to do with the dryer space/storage wise.

Since it is a condenser (not my favorite) and given NYC's hot and muggy warm weather probably won't use the thing much if at all unless it is very cold and crisp outside (read dead winter). As it tis one is spending a small fortune on electric bills this summer trying to keep things cool and dry. So the problem becomes where to put the thing?

Am going to nab a set of appliance rollers or even a dolly to set it on when delivered so it can be moved about. But need to find a way to stash it somewhere.

Have been trying for years to find one of those older metal racks Hoover, Maytag, GE, and Whirlpool sold for their compact W&D units, but no such luck. Figure could stack the Whirlpool compact dryer up and shove the AEG underneath.

Without that option will now have to jig up something either by having it built or seeking out an alternative. Need something strong enough to hold the WP compact dryer, but yet allow space underneath for the AEG. Don't like sacking washer and dryer as it means if one needs to service the former the dryer has to come down.

Ideas?

Would this be tucked into a closet?......

can a shelf be mounted and put in place, some simple 2x4's and a sheet of plywood, and the dryer slid into place?....dryers aren't that heavy

have seen this done with a portable GE dryer that can be used upsidedown, and the dryer sits flat on the shelf....the closet in the bathroom was wide enough to allow a rod at the top for hanging clothes, and a laundry hamper next to the washer, and a few laundry supplies sat on the shelf, all hidden behind doors when not in use...

Stacking

Will you be able to stack the units in a corner? if so, this might be an idea for you - see picture. This is my washing machine with dryer stacked in top, but my washer is the same size as your AEG, indeed I had a similar AEG washing machine in there at first. It sits in a corner of my bathroom.

The arrangement is that a panel 195cm x 24cm (It is a standard Ikea cover panel for when the sides of larder or oven units are exposed and you want to match them to the cupboard doors). A shelf, about 26cm wide to allow for vibration of the washing machine, is secured to both sides of the wall and the side panel. At the top there is an Ikea wall unit (the type that goes over an extractor) to fill in the space between the top of the panel and the top of the dryer - there is still a bit of gap on top of the dryer. It was necessary to pack out the side of the wall unit at it is 60cm, but that was done with an off cut of wood which I painted. The wall unit is secured through its sides to the wall and the panel up the side of the machines, which serves to give it more rigidity as well

As it is a wall unit (37cm deep) but aligned with the front of the washer & dryer (60cm deep) there is a good gap at the back for ventilation. I keep my laundry products in the cupboard.

You might well find that it is better to place the AEG on top rather than the WP as its quite possible that the WP will be heavier presumably as its older.

The arrangement I describe has been in place for 10 years and is still doing fine - I have since replaced the dryer with a heat pump Beko machine which is both slightly larger and heavier.

Problem is where the electrical outlets are won't allow the AEG to be used where it could be stacked under the WP. Hence the rollers so one can shift it about when needed, then shove it back when not in use.

Will have to look up the weight of the WP compact, and yes being a 1980's mostly metal job probably weighs more than the AEG. IIRC the latter is at or less than 100lbs.

Closet space wise am not able to as they all are full of other things. Besides friends in NYC what have condenser dryers in closets report nothing but trouble. One even stopped using in favor of a compact but vented dryer.
