Well been about 3 weeks since the washer got a new partner, a matching Speed Queen.
I've done several different loads from heavy queen sized cotton flannel bedding to pinpoint oxford dress shirts to everyday clothes.
For most loads, I found that one click past "less dry" seems to work fine without overdrying the load.
As far as the timer goes, I found that it only buzzes when it is on timed dry. All other cycles it will click and pop when it advances but it is not too loud.
Airflow vis a vis the GE is stronger. It will hold open all three vent slats when running. The GE would keep 2 open.
Lint control seems better than the GE. With the GE I always had stray stuff on the door and around the lint trap where it sets in the opening. The SQ keeps all the lint in the trap and nothing has been collecting on the door like the GE.
I never really timed a load on the GE or the SQ for that matter so I can't offer an exact apples to apples measurement on drying times on the auto dry cycles.
I would estimate both about the same, perhaps a tad faster on the SQ with queen sheets due to a larger drum.
If I had to rework things, it would be the timer knob. I liked the separate start switch on the GE and the timer felt "tighter" when you dialed in the setting you wanted. The SQ has more "slop" as I call it and it is easy to overshoot what you want then have to go all the way back around again. Sometimes I feel in pushing to start, I inadvertently advance the timer one click further along than I want.
Timed dry, never used on the GE and probably won't on the SQ. I am horrible at guessing how many minutes for a load so I'll just let the thermostat take care of it for me.
All in all, I am pleased with this unit. It is my first non sensor equipped dryer so I really did not know what to expect. FWIW, the GE did just fine on all types of loads with the sensor dry and the SQ seems to do just as well.
