there are a couple big dumpsters downtown that I check on occaision-yesterday a sewing machine was recovered-wooden case was in bad shape, but machine is just about mint-an Emdeco made in japan around 1959 I estimate:wiring and light socket are U.S. made, but internally mounted motor was made in Japan as was original appearing bulb.Foot control was missing.Kinda eager to take this one for a spin, and it can zig zag.Poking around for info on this machine, discovered it likely was made by Toyota :)During the searching also found a site for sewing "guys"that has lots of male-orientated sewing and clothes making info :)got the vibe the guy running that site(Male pattern boldness) might be gay, which many here will like :)

Same thoughts-those older ALL METAL sewing machines will outsew most modern ones!It would be worth trying to fix this one up.Did you try sewing with it just after you found it?If so should be a good fix up.

I'm always finding them at Goodwill and have to really resist the temptation!  I have NO room, but I'd love to get them and clean them up, refinish the cabinets, and make them look and function properly again.  MIL is still happy as a lark since I fixed both of hers.

another one !

checked the same dumpster again this past Monday and there was more goodies including another sewing machine!-a slant needle, worm drive Singer I recon is from around 1952-55 and in good condition and complete, though locked up solid-probably congealed up oil is the cause as there is no rust.A box of ceramic plates was also recovered :)Looked like someone was clearing an estate or something.

The Singer is another that would be worth looking into.Unseize it,clean it up,relube and it should be fine!If there are any plastic gears in it check those for stripped teeth, cracks,or breakage. If the gears are broken the machine is done for unless there is a donor machine to get gears from. One of the gears is mounted on a shaft which will require the machine to be taken apart to replace it.If that is happened most repairmen scrap the machine.Hope that didn't happen to the Singer you found.

singer going

got the Singer turning-the hooked drum that revolves around the bobbin was locked up,a couple drops of fresh oil fixed it.Like my other worm drive slant needles, this on a little lacking in motor power VS my '83 touch-tronic 2010 or JC Penny 7057.The ~1959 Emdeco is oiled up and running good, has similar motor power to the 1950s singer.
