Had a similar washer in 1971

My mom bought a similar washer and dryer in avocado back in 1971! We had a washer and dryer with the same arrangement of knobs. The control panel had an all wood grain background with silver lines and lettering. The washer had wash and soak cycles on the timer. The fabric selector determined wash/spin speeds and wash/rinse temperatures. There was a cold water option and the variable water level control. The dryer had automatic and timed cycles, and choice of regular, delicate or no-heat settings. We had the gas dryer that required a visit by the repairman at last once every two years, the igniter was replaced at least twice and when it happened a third time mom had enough. We learned early on to not have a mini load set at normal speed agitation. We suds locked the machine once using Wisk detergent. The spin/spray setting was run three times to clear that out! Frigidaire was mom's second choice because the Maytag plant was on strike at the time and couldn't get the washer and dryer she wanted. The dealer did not have it in stock. She kept it until 1987. The washer was sold to some one whose house flooded during hurricane Rita and he lost everything in his home having been flooded with 3 feet of water inside. Mom now has a Maytag set in white (Dependable Care series, I think) that has been faithful for the last 22 yrs! The washer is a one speed model that uses intermittent agitation instead a slower speed and a shorter spin time on the delicate cycle.
