Early Maytag 806

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

That's an excellent price for what appears to be a low mileage machine with legible buttons, even if it doesn't offer the slow/fast combination.

Interesting that its companion dryer failed first, but then again, it would have been a Maytag.  Of course I'm only guessing that there was one.

How does the 8-fin agitator's effectiveness compare to the later types?

Early-ish KDE806

It has bar baffle sensor strips so that places it somewhere between 1968-1971.

Piolt Lights

I'll have to dig through my material but for the post 1965 machines, they were around in 1966 for sure. I think they were discontinued in 1975 with the last HOH dryer.

How does the 8-fin agitator's effectiveness compare....

Hard to tell. I think the extra 4 tiny fins probably help stir things up a smidge but it's nothing drastic.

Thanks for the info Dan.  So if the machine referenced in the OP is from 1967, why wouldn't it have a pilot light?  Could it be that Maytag still had a stockpile of older 806 consoles to get rid of?  I'm sure that as a rule, they sold far more of the lesser models than they did high-priced 806s.

Thanks Kenny.  I never noticed that before, but it makes sense considering the translucent panels.
