Well that's very creative thinking Eric. And you're absolutely right. It would be like sort of a 1950s early version of a food processor on a restaurant scale.
Actually when I first saw this on C/L, I had called the woman selling it and asked about that odd looking attachment. She told me it was to attach to the top of the agitator and put lampshades onto to soak them clean. To rinse them she said her grandmother would just use the fill hose she had for the wash tub. You weren't supposed to acuate the agitator lever. But it could have been something her grandmother's handyman husband may have fashioned, for that extra bit of cleanliness in the living room. I think it may have been just what it looks like - an old lampshade frame that someone put into the old washer tub to hide.
Well, I know, what 50s housewife with heels, a nice day dress, hat and bag to match would spend her time with white gloves doing lampshade laundry? I know my mother had so little time to herself with 4 kids running hog wild around the house that washing lampshades would be the absolute last thing on her list to do. Pretty silly eh?
