Ecover Biological & Colour Liquids

Hi folks,

Some of you might have seen already but Ecover have launched Bio and colour liquids (instead of just non bio). I've been wanting to test this for a while but only just got the chance. I've been using the non bio to wash black jeans as it has high surfactant count but no OBA's, so it works great on those. My only criticism of Ecover detergents is that they can often foam up a lot and be difficult to rinse out.

Having just tried this on a load of darks, it doesn't foam up anywhere near as much as the concentrated non bio and it washes brilliantly. Very impressed.

Here's the colour liquid. I haven't tried this one yet. It's the same as the bio but contains "Dye Transfer Inhibitor Polymer" to stop loose dye particles from transferring. Neither the bio or colour bio contain OBA's

Laundry bleach

I haven't used this detergent yet but am going to give it a go when I am out of my current stock. However, I have discovered Ecover Laundry Bleach and have dumped Vanish as a result. Not only is it a lot cheaper but it seems to do as good a job. Waitrose seem to have all Ecover products on 3 for 2 at the moment so have stocked up.

I have used the Ecover bio liquid and can confirm it does wash well and also rinses well out of clothing. I only buy it if it is on special offer though. Sainsbury's had it on offer for £6 earlier this year for 42 washes.

It's on offer again at the moment Ben - £6 for 42 washes. I'm currently using it alongside Splosh biological powder which is fab!

Paul, I agree about Ecover Laundry Bleach. It is essentially the same as all these oxy clean and vanish products, but it's cheaper, biodegradable and suitable for septic tanks. BioD do a similar product also that I actually find slightly better. It's pretty much the same product with the same results, but the packaging is a different shape and I find it easier to dispense.

Will have to get some then when I'm next out. Using Ecozone too which I find good. I haven't used top brands such as Ariel since August last year and wouldn't go back to them either. Your just paying for the name I think.

Hi Ben,

We went completely eco on all cleaning products and cosmetics about 2 years ago. However, I've still been using Persil Bio powder as I hadn't found an eco alternative that washed and rinsed as well...until now.

I'm currently using Ecover Bio liquid for darks and Splosh powder for lights, whites and bedding.

Splosh is quite an interesting concept. You buy a set of refillable bottles and then just order refill packs that are posted out free of charge. Their laundry detergents are super concentrated as all the bulking agents have been removed, so you only need a very small amount. The bottles for laundry liquid and powder are self-dosing too. The cotton fresh powder smells AMAZING!

I must give Ecover bio a try. I'm getting a bit fed up with the ludicrous notion that non bio is some kind of eco friendly skin friendly wonderful natural thing.

Enzymes are a fantastic, eco friendly way of getting stains and dirt out of laundry and off dishes without resorting to a load of nasty, environmentally pollution producing chemicals.

Unless you've an unusual allergy to an enzyme (which is as likely as an allergy to soap or scent ) then biological detergents are great!

Where do you buy Acdo washing powder from? I have tried ordering from their useless website but can't get to the payment stage.
