I've never had an Elna, either, but would like to play with one someday. Elna always had some innovative storage solutions for their machines, much more sleek and compact than many other makes. The case unfolded to become the bed-extension table for the machine. I went to an estate sale of a sewing machine collector 5+ years ago and she had dozens of machines, a few of which were these Elnas. Despite the thrift store pricing, I didn't bring one home. There were several of the Elna "Grasshopper" machines as well, a smaller version on par with a Singer Featherweight in size and weight.
