That's a very old, very nice Royal. The wheels directly behind the nozzle are replacements; only newer models use those wide wheels.

Hate to bust the sellers bubble-that Royal is not an antique machine-note the sticker on the fan housing---"electric shock could occur if used outdoors or on wet floors"These didn't appear until after the late 60's and early 70's.Bill at Vacuum Hospital out here comments those machines are from the late 70's to early 80's.And yes--the front large wheels-mine still has the small ones. The larger rollers do allow it to roll easier. The small ones "sink in" into deep pile carpets.

ive loved Royals since i was a small child. i remember calling shops and asking the price! just beautiful design. though i must mention, my Hoover (1940s) model 28, with 300 watt motor, FAR outcleans my 350 watt Royal.

Yes I also have a Hoover#28-it works well--but VERY hard to push on my deep carpet. The Royal is easier to push and does better on my deep carpets.I still like both machines. The Hoover has the advantage of the metal roller--replaceable brush strips and the beater bars to vibrate the carpet. The vibration helps more than the brushes. The Royal doesn't vibrate the carpet and floor as much-the Hoover and my kirbys vibrate the carpet so much--you feel the floor vibrate. And later royals with brush stiffeners make the floor vibrate as well as the Hoover and Kirby.
