Predecessor to "pods".Pranksters used to use these in fountains to make them suds up.Guess it would clean out the fountains pump?
Not the best choice for fountains, as salvo is low sudsing. Tide was the fountain pranksters choice around here. 
I always thought it was the Salvos those folks used-it could be dropped into the fountain without anyone noticing-now putting a cup of Tide in the fountain--you might get noticed!

Since Salvo detergent is being snapped up on fleaPay, and this box will be no exception. Though the final price may be higher now that it has been sniffed out.
Salvo tablets died a slow death because of complaints the things did not dissolve well. Housewives moaned about finding bits or even much of a whole tablet clinging to their wash at the end of cycle. IIRC the directions on the boxes one has read state to use Salvo tablets in hot or at least warm water. Probably would have been better to have whacked them with a mallet, but that would have defeated much of their purpose. IIRC the product contained a good amount of phosphates, so one wonders if sitting around all these years may have not made those hockey pucks even harder.
Have a box of Vim tablets in my stash that smell divine, but haven't opened to test.

I've bought a few boxes. Oddly, some of the tablets are hard and will not fully dissolve even in warm water(hot will do it), while others have partly disintegrated into powder inside the plastic sleeves (four tablets per sleeve). The newer boxes do have instructions recommending hot water. Probably when Salvo came out in the early sixties hot water washing was still the default mode for everyone and it wasn't considered necessary to mention it.
