Rpms are meaningless

The number of RPM's advertised my sound good, but the manufactorers should rate the machines for the amount of G-force its spin dry produces. The small tub of a twinny would have to spin a good deal faster to produce the same amount of force as larger tub going slower. I am no math wiz, but I remember some one once posted a link to a G-force calculator. Laundry Machines sold in the commercial/industrial realm are rated for G-force-Rpm is the rating used to bewilder the consumer market.

How funny !

I was reading literature about a front loader....dont know what brand. It listed the G-force. I thought to myself, That does not tell me anything. I wanna know what the RPM's are! LOL. Live and Learn. So what are good g-forces for a machine to have ?

Still the Top Load Champion

The Frigidaire Unimatic spins at 1140 rpm of course, this design was engineered in the mid-1930's. 70 years later no other top loader has ever reached and broken this record.

YAY for our Unimatics.

Austin,

I think the Hoover twintubs spun even a bit faster, perhaps 3300rpm or so, but they have much smaller drums so the G-forces will be a bit lower than when a fully automatic would spin with that speed. I'm not an expert though on twintubs, except for the H-axis twintubs made by AEG, Bosch, Miele and other German brands.

In order to compare the spin efficiency it is indeed better to calculate the G-force. Here's the link to a G-force calculator. Make sure that you fill in the radius of the drum, not the diameter and then that you fill in that value in millimeters. Important ofcourse that this spinspeed is achieved during a few minutes, otherwise it's less effective.

Just an impression ?

I have the impression that unbalanced loads retain less water ( get drier) during spinning compared to well balanced loads. Could G-force be a bit higher due to this 'extra' movement?
Is this just an impression?
