Hi everyone I finally scored my favorite detergent ever at target after years of not being able to find it. I live near lansing Michigan and the only store that sells this is target nowadays. It used to be widely available sold at Kroger Walmart Meijer but about ten years ago they stopped selling them and I couldn’t find this soap anywhere and haven’t had it since 2014 or something.

For those who live in different states have you seen this anywhere else other than target?? It smells SO GOOD. It’s the exact same scent it used to smell like back in the day I don’t get how considering tide has changed the original scent powder over the last decade. Anyway, I’m so happy to of gotten it again!

Used to smell like back in the day?

That just caught my attention, I'll have to try some now especially since I'm making a switch back over to powder anyways. Otherwise I would've stuck with Tide Mountain Spring cause that's the same smell that was in the original liquid detergent which I love but now they're very hard to find these days.

Yes it smells exactly the same as it used to back around 2010-2013. It’s such a distinct scent I remember from when my grandma would use it this was her favorite detergent and I grew up with her having it around. I imagined by now it would of smelled different but no, smells totally the same. I guess some things don’t change from tide but it’s rare. Love that mountain spring powder but I find it’s not much different smelling than the original powder. We have mountain spring widely available at every store around my area.

The tide plus downy powder honestly smells like tide original powder from 15 or so years ago mixed with that classic downy “April fresh” scent. It’s definitely the strongest scented powder Tide makes and leaves a light downy scent on fabrics after washing & drying. Works wonderfully too as expected.

Looks like Target is the only place that carries it around here as well. I usually do my shopping at Meijer but don't see it listed there at all. May have to order some, would love to try it in my new front loader!

I had never heard of this. I may have to try it now, if I can find it.
Please bear with me, while I overthink this:
Does it contain fabric softener, or is it just the scent of Downy?
And, if one were to use a separate softener in the rinse cycle, wouldn't the scent of the detergent be lost?

The description states it has "special ingredients that provide softening benefits throughout the wash."  Full-identical additives as a separate fabric softener product is unlikely since the lubricants cause scrud (and kill suds) when combined with detergent.

The ingredients would need to be compared to other Tide powder products to determine the difference.

Yes it contains softener just like the liquid version of tide plus downy. You absolutely could use softener in addition still but I find this works great on its own. It still does suds up in the wash but word of caution It doesn’t like dissolving in cold water. I had to do casuals the other day with a new item involved in the wash and had to use cold which I hate doing but for the sake of preventing bleeding occurring I had to, and I added the detergent first in my Kenmore direct drive then added the load. Set it to low speed agitation, and when the cycle was over and I pulled everything out I found a huge clump of the detergent stuck to the bottom of my tub. That has never happened in the history of me using powder. I guess due to the waxy softener ingredients it doesn’t like cold water and needs warm or greater temps to dissolve it’s worked fine in every warm load I’ve done.

Dan, I know you mentioned adding the clothes after putting the detergent at the bottom of the tub, but did you also start the washer filling first? I found this often helped when I had a direct drive and used powdered detergent. I always started the washer, added detergent, then waited until the machine was about a quarter of the way full of water or so before loading. It's also why I quit using powder when I had a new-style TL with the lid lock. You can't start the machine at all unless the lid is closed, so I was afraid it wouldn't dissolve properly. Also might not be a bad idea to keep a small jug of liquid around for those occasional cold water loads.

Tide + Downy is one of the most nostalgic scents of my childhood even though T+D was apparently not released until the 2010s?

What I mean to say is that this formulation smells exactly like the detergent my grandmother used in the 2000s. I'm not exactly sure what she washed with back then, but the smell of this particular flavor of Tide is spot-on with my memory of her laundry room.
