I spied this on the shelves of a local supermarket. Reduced from £4 to £2.

Apparently it increases performance of the machine, but there is "no need to add rinse-aid".

Well, I am of the opinion that this is likely to be rinse-aid, albeit in a richer form, probably similar to the "Turbo Dry" version they were flogging a few years ago. I think the bottle of this new stuff stated 15-30% non-ionic surfactants, compared to 5-15% for ordinary rinse-aid.

I didn't buy any: I thought it was another way to con the consumer.

It's Also....

....A way to tell the thinking consumer "We're not that confident about our detergent."

I do not understand what some of today's marketing "geniuses" are thinking when they create and flog add-on products. Either their main product does the job, in which case no add-ons should be needed - or it does not do the job, in which case consumers should not be blamed for passing it up in favor of products that do do the job, instead of throwing good money after bad in hopes of making an inferior product better with an add-on.
