There'll be a few changes in the finished cover, according to the publisher. "AUTHOR'S NAME" will become "Joe Ekaitis" because the only time I was addressed as "Joseph Ekaitis!" was when I was in trouble.

And, yes, it's even appliance-related. The griffin and the bear share a cave that's more like a bachelor apartment, and after dinner, they take turns loading the dishwasher. :)

Proposed flap copy:

Welcome to Collinsfort Village!

For Dennis Pearson, life is never dull, especially with a friend like Griff. Twenty feet of half-eagle, half-lion dragon-slaying power, Griff flies down from his cave on the first three Saturdays of the month and reads stories to the children at the library. But unknown to everyone in town, Griff is a best-selling author of myth-and-legend novels published under his pen name Karolyne von Frankenburgh. A partially shredded royalty statement sends Dennis, Griff and his Chevy Suburban-driving cavemate Bear on a wild escapade of espionage, mistaken identities, cover-ups and perhaps even murder.

But life in Collinsfort Village is just as interesting for Griff. When Griff’s mural-painting friend Dorian comes to town, he drops a bombshell and confesses, “I changed aviation history, Griff. If the rest of the world ever found out, they’d want me dead.” Dorian, you see, is a magnificent peacock-blue dragon who hasn’t flown in nearly a hundred years. Will Griff, Dennis and Bear find out what really happened in the skies over the Pacific Ocean in 1937? Can they solve aviation’s greatest mystery and give Dorian a reason to spread his mighty wings and take to the air once more?

Spend some time in Collinsfort Village. You might just want to move there yourself!

Yeah! I was about to say "Harry Potter set in the American suburbs!" Excellent!

Keep us posted on how this goes...

Actually, my literary patron saints are. . .

Kenneth Grahame (The Wind in the Willows, The Reluctant Dragon), E. B. White (Stuart Little, The Trumpet of the Swan) and Frank R. Stockton (The Griffin and the Minor Canon).

I haven't read so much as the flap copy from Redwall or Harry Potter even though one of my favorite quotes is "Good artists copy. GREAT artists STEAL." (Pablo Picasso, often quoted by Steve Jobs) :)
