I would like to ask how long has FP been distributing appliances in the US?When I went to my local dump-transfer station saw what kinda startled me-A Fisher Paykel dryer in the appliances dumpster.Sadly for it to get there-it gets dropped into the dumpster.and a file cabinet was dropped onto it.I was trying to figure how old it would be.also it was pouring rain at the time.and there was a Jenn-air cooktop that was totally soaked.kinda sad.At one dump site in VA-usable or repairable appliances were put in a "too good to waste" place as the sign said.Have seen those get new homes.they don't have that here.I am also betting any poor appliance in that dumpster gets the krusher.

recycling appliances

At Geelong there is a Council waste transfer site that has a great recycle yard. Anything of recycle value is saved, your load is checked over by an attendant and you are told what to put where. They have a fantastic resale yard where you can buy just about anything - lawn mowers, bikes, stoves, lp records, magazines, vacuum cleaners, jewellery, light shades, mis-tints of paint, 1970s stereo players, computer equipment, car parts and...Washing Machines!! Most of my "finds" come from there. It is run by charitable organisation though the site is owned by the municipality. Most of the workers there have slight disabilities, both intellectual and physical. One of the workers, Paul, always bursts out laughing when I turn up, I have no idea why. Another worker, Nick, has downs syndrome, he always chats to me about washing machines and tells me that Hoovers are best, his Mum has a Hoover!

A great place to visit, a trip to Geelong isn't complete without dropping in. I still go there about twice a month, window shopping only as we currently only have a tiny car so transporting washing machines is out.

And back on topic - aren't F&P dryers in USA just rebadged GE dryers?

Chris.

Thats my problem as well my car isn't large enough to carry a washer for example. If that Jenn-Air cooktop wasn't soaked I could have popped that into my car.also it was missing some parts.I would have to think a dedicated large appliance collector would have a pickup or van with a liftgate and an appliance hand truck.

F&P has a blurb and link to a press-release document dated April 2006 on their USA web site about celebrating 10 years in the US. The first product marketed was the DishDrawer, which I think was in 1996. I bought a GWL08 washer and DE04 dryer in summer of 1998, so laundry was introduced around that time, possibly a year or so prior.

The front-load dryer marketed in the US (DE/DG series) are made in Canada by Camco, a part of the GE conglomerate. The topload dryer was originally manuf'd in New Zealand, but may now be coming out of Ohio along with the latest line of washers.
