Didn't have a great spot to post this, but odds are it will be seen here more than  in As the Tub Turns.  I am looking for some ideas to send food or something to a hospital support team.  Wondering if anyone here works in a hospital or knows folks that do, what would be a good option.  One of my cousins has been in Northwestern Hospital in Chicago for a week so far, and none my family is in that area, of course we couldn't visit her anyway, but she said the staff have been great.  Was thinking as a group we could send some food or desserts or treats of some kind to them, just don't know what would be good.  I'd guess they are pizza'd out, not sure what else could feed a group.  Just want to say thanks to them.

Ideas?

We know several

on the front lines, both related, and not. A pot of soup or pasta dishes hot or cold are comforting, and easy to transport, unless yoy prefer to portion them out before delivery in containers. they might also enjoy a nice pulled pork or other BBQ meals. Cole slaw, potato salads, etc. Bean and ham soup, pea, chicken noodle, rice, etc.
A sister in law is a nurse, and her hospital has a full service restaurant which is operating round the clock for staff only. Sysco is still delivering, and they are able to get fresh produce from wholesalers.

I work in a hospital, resident education administration, thus I"m working at home.  Our cafeteria has stuff that's grab and go as well as take and bake (for home) casseroles that they can pay for with their call meal card.  Our local restaurants have been delivering food with funds provided by churches, organizations, and individuals.  that seems to work the best, especially if you know a specific area that's part of the front lines, such as ICU.  If you're wanting to do this, but not have a lot of knowledge of specific areas, call the hospital operator, I bet they can give suggestions.  And trust me, it well appreciated.  Also the sme groups have been sponsoring purchasing of extra protective equipment.

Well we've sort of narrowed it down, my preference is Jimmy John's minis they come individually wrapped and you can add chips and drinks.  24 pack, at a fair price.  The other option is Meals 2 medics  meals2medics.com the provides a plethora of food for a 10-12 hour shift.  It's quite a bit pricier.  I'd like enough for 2 shifts so we'll see. many are leaning toward the meals option at this point.

We've had a lot of customers sending sandwich platters, cookies platters and cases of water to the hospital down the street from work. We are more than happy to do it, plus we give them a discount, no tax, and usually donate what our company allows.

Maybe look for a grocery chain that does catering near you or even Panera or the like and explain what you want to do, maybe the will offer a deal.

Most places will not take homemade food but check on that as well.

I just did a delivery on Sunday for the staff of the Covid Ward, but they wanted me to bring it up to the floor. I had to say no, I would meet them at the front doors.

This has turned into a headache. Sunday most places were closed.  Today this AM I called Jimmy John's inquiring about  delivery to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, .4 miles away, they said sure, so I reported back to our group, we finally all agreed, getting 10-12 folks to agree via text is not fun. I compared this to our experience with this group trying to order pizza, last time it took an hour to reach some consensus.  Anyway the designated person called and was told no- said I was told incorrectly.  No grub hub , Caviar or Door Dash for JJ-

So we regrouped tried Subway IN THE HOSPITAL and I was hung up on. Other places closed or not a good option, we really want wrapped food to minimize risk, no luck.  Finally called Jersy Mike's they will allow Door Dash and Grubhub to deliver so we might try that tomorrow.   I would be simple if one of us lived there, but not the case. The grubhub site lists JM but not the catering options, so we have to deal with how to do that.  There is a staff of 24 on the floor so we are trying to cover everyone with a snack, we are willing to spend up to  $400 but it is sure hard to do remotely.

Just unreal!

We've been warned for years, Not If, but When this would happen. Well, as the old saying goes; "we're from the govt. and here to help." However, we did have a new dept. of infectious diseases until 2018 which could have better informed us all, and helped hospital prepare better for this. The World Health org. also offered it's tests to us all, but that was refused by 'ehem', the same someone who wanted to hold up checks mailed out until his signature could be added to them.

That’s very nice of your family sending food.

I know I made suggestions above, which are things we bring in for our department.
Radiology is forgotten and we never have stuff sent to us by anyone, meanwhile other areas are getting more than they can ever use
