Have any of you considered donations to service people through http://anysoldier.com (there are equivalent, anysailor.com, anymarine.com etc.).

I'm NOT a big fan of donating money BUT you can get specific addresses with specific requests for items. Usually it is small things like candy, deodorant, soap, etc. and can make a HUGE difference to the lives of deployed people.

One other thing that is common is UNscented baby wipes - when you are deployed and only bathe once/month ANYTHING you can do to clean up is heaven.

Hey Hunter,

Our town has a couple of days where they organize a community collection for the soldiers. They do give suggestions like bottles of water, baby wipes, bathroom sundries, and the like.

I generally give to other causes, only because I've had personal experience with them (American Cancer Society, for one), though I do drop a case or two of water off when they have the drives.

Here in Sacramento, California:

The closest Dollar Store that I shop at has a funding Box at the Registers, that you can select an item out of and if it is a Food Item, you don't have to pay Sales Tax which here is 8.75% now for that item, but if it isn't a Food Item, then you do have to pay our Sales Tax, which to me either way is I feel a kind gesture to help out our Military Personnel.

Peace and Kind Regards, Steve

This is cool!

Sounds like you guys have found some good stuff.

What I was impressed with the anysoldier site was that you sent the things DIRECTLY to the person who asked for them. No middleman. No social engineering either "Oh they don't need THAT" etc.
