Was shopping at a "Big Lots" store today here in metro Detroit and ran across a box of Fab powder for $2.00. Gave it a whirl when I got home with a small load of colors. Seemed to do a nice job. I didn't know Fab was still made (by a company called Phoenix Brands. Made in USA.

I managed to find a box made by ColgatePalmolive 3 weeks ago. It does pretty good for me, but all of the powder does not dissolve in the Primus FL. It has a nice scent. I wouldn't dare use it in my Ariston though.

I had a warm water wash in my trusty Whirlpool Imperial Heavy-Duty and all the powder seemed to disolve in the wash cycle. I did notice the nice scent it has.

Borax

I use the Borax if I have laundry that needs a little extra deodorizing (like my kitchen clothes when I'm making sauerkraut all day!). It really helps with that - I also use it for general cleaning around the house.

The FAB from Phoenix brands is not the same as the FAB from C-P. The original from C-P is relatively low sudsing and smelled pretty good. I haven't tried the newer stuff myself, but people who have think it's not as good as the original.

Maybe if you put in some STPP in the detergent it will have better results.

As for that FAB advert. I don't think guys cared how white their shirts were. If they didn't stink and were ironed, they were good to go.

FAB powder is available around here in quite a few places. One of our stores (Bi-Lo) has three of the four scents in powder and liquid. It's true, the powders don't dissolve immediately. I noticed that this past winter in one of my machines with a recirc. filter, as I could see and feel the specks in the water. It took about 5 minutes for it all to dissolve.

The Fab from Phoenix Brands is still very low sudsing, at least in my experience. Even in a Kenmore with the straight-vane agitator (which can make hardened cement foam up) the detergent doesn't suds. I like that. The scent is nice to, but I never used the C-P version to compare the difference. No complaints on the current stuff. I do have one new box of the C-P product, which I will open soon and try.

I have a box of Phoenix Fab. It is low-sudsing, works nicely in my Calypso in that respect. Per the ingredient list it doesn't have enzymes, but does have OABs (fabric brighteners).

Yes - it has a switch next to the timer for an optional "additional rinse cycle" - I don't use it that often, but depending on what I'm washing and the detergent, it's nice to have the additional rinse.
