last one looks like 72/73 and still has the sticker on it. My Aunt had this set in harvest gold they bought when they moved to Plano, tex for an airplane design job.

@reply 3

Is the automatic cycle on the bottom part of the settings?

If it is thats the exact dryer that was in the house in Beverly Farms Mass we didn't have the matching washer sadly but a Maytag 2 speed 3 cycle with a slider control for water level and push buttons for temp and speed etc it did a good job of cleaning and the dryer was as fast as the washer !

Yes the drum peeling and rusting sent many of these great dryers to an early grave. I know I personally scrapped quite a few of them because of this. They started doing a better job with the white coated drums around 1986 and they were much more durable unless you liked washing jeans in cold water.

uggggh

I don't know what's worse on a dryer drum:

the blue staining from blue jeans
the yellow/brown staining from natural/propane gas dryers along with THAT smell
or
the scummy, dirt and wear from people who either didn't use enough detergent or dried inappropriate things like rubber items

I had a Maytag DG713 I saved from the crusher that took 1.3 years of regular use before the blue stained drum and rear bulkhead transformed back to factory white. Never had any stained coloring from natural gas use nor a lingering scent.

Dan, my 26 2/3 year old Maytag Dependable Care LE9824 as perfectly hwite inside as they day it was installed when it went out the door after it had cratered.

Yeah, the previous owners loved their blue jeans and washed them in tap cold water. I was surprised how long those stains lingered before disappearing. I use a temper valve adjusted to 85F so never any problems in that department.

It's encouraging to know that the blue ink comes off. I thought it was permanent damage.
However, doesn't that mean that it came off onto YOUR clothing?

I've dealt with well over 150 washers & dryers since 1981. I've installed several gas water heaters and furnaces. I've seen the old stuff. It's always the same yellowish-brown staining.

I've seen the gas staining on gas water heaters, stoves, furnaces, exhaust pipes, and the inside of gas dryers. I've seen it in commercial laundromats that use gas for the dryers.
And then there is the smell and the eventual discoloration of fabrics.

It isn't a huge difference and it builds up over time so the average person may not notice it. When you have the exposure, you see the difference. yuck

This doesn't happen with electric dryers.
You also don't have pan bottoms getting blackened by electric stoves.
