"DeepFreeze" became a generic name for food freezers much like "Kodak" for cameras, "Frigidaire" for refrigerators & "Bendix" for early washers. The Yiddish word for refrigerator is fridzshdair, a spelling necessitated because there is no hard "G" in the Hebrew alphabet, but based on "Frigidaire". Curious about the spelling of "Georgia" in Yiddish, I discovered that the word begins with a D followed by a Z to combine to give the hard G sound.
