Friday's POD~ Whirlpool MARK XII

Have we seen this version lately or not? Pretty nice lookin' huh! All the buttons on the top. Does anyone have this model?

 

The Surgilator has the newer cap, but I can't tell if it's chrome, probably is, the poly came much later, I just realized. The cap looks so long.

 

When we were kids, a miser was a word in vogue and you didn't want to be called one. Thinks it's kinda funny that WP always called their suds-return a "Suds Miser." Wonder if it kept anyone from buying it.

Doubt it. Older now, suds miser sounds endearing. I want to be a Suds Miser.

I have one darn similar

Mine also has 12 total buttons---10 various cycles, SUDS, Pre-wash.
Mine is 1960, but I was born in 59 so I lie and say it was too. Maybe Robert our Master knows where/when he got this ad, I'd like to know.

What a fab Whirlpool, prettier I think than the POD. It's nice to see some interest in Whirlys lately. I totally agree with you that '59 had to be better than '60, it just is!

I think your Surgi cap is older than the cylindrical one in the POD, and I have been following your threads about your amazing Mark XII with great interest and admiration.

 

Have you got the Suds Miser working yet? Those things are a ball to play with. And even if you don't like re-using water you simply fill the laundry tub with fresh hot stuff and use that. The fun is in watching the water pump back fast squirting thru the holes and the great variety of water works, currents, and chaos you experience as water rises, and all the while the Surgilator surging. (pectorals) ;->

I've grown very familiar with your machine, but I keep thinking we've seen the one in the POD somewhere in the great land of Automtic Washer recently, and I'm not talking about this one below:

Hey Mickey

Mickey---mine is NOT a suds saver machine, the button doesn't say SUDS, it won't push in, it's just a spaceholder. However, I've over-ridden the water level switch on a Maytag and a Filter Flo, just to get a dry agitate and it suck suds back in. On this whirlpool, it turns out that if I set it for pre-wash with only a 2 minute agitation, I can turn slowly past the water fill and go right to dry agitate, and sure enough it sucks back in! Trouble is, like "tag and FF, it's a "hands-on" operation, it would suck 22 gallons from the filter flo into this much smaller machine!
But I'm always watching anyhows, so it looks like this is a cheap, poorman's suds machine anyhows, and I know what I'm washing and how dirty water is, I don't have any trouble deciding exactly what water can and can't be reused. I tell myself I'm saving 2% of the water costs while spending $25 to $100 on each new machine for the fun of it. It's a hobby.

My favorite Whirlpool is now very torn apart, new seals and washers coming from Sears, then a tranny rebuild and lots of posting on that. Then I'll repaint the cabinet, partner will repaint the lettering on that glass console, and plenty of pictures. With it's small tub and increasing rarity of parts, I doubt this will be a daily use machine, but neverthless it will get used once weekly for sure, and the light will stay on for ages, too cool.

Yes, please post lots of pics of that. I need to do it on at least 2 of mine and I'm a bit nervous about how to go about it.

Yes, indeed, yours and the light of the Whirlpool Corp. Imagine......they have survived, not Easy, not Frigidiare, but Whirlpool.

 

For all my love of suds-savers, mine are all rigged too just like yours, even the WP's. Thanks to John (Combo), I do have the right valve for the Frigi Mutimatic, but even with that, once the valve is set, you can't leave. If you do, the rinse water will be saved as well, creating a massive overflow out of both tubs, inner and outer, and onto the floor. Have not let this happen and have no intention of doing so, even as an experiment. These machines are too cherished to risk unnecessary stress.

 

Will be exciting watching you bring back your Mark, born in the USA same year as you.
