Hey, so this is part two of my Christmas update -- the first was the Lady Kenmore washer and dryer dream system we now have. But we've had all sorts of other great updates in our appliance life lately. We've gotten a great avocado green percolator and some other wonderful small appliances, but the biggest new update is our refrigerators.
We used to have a white 1957 GE Combination fridge in our kitchen. We've had it for 15 years and absolutely love it -- the lazy susan trays, the quiet compressor, the nice shiny white exterior with chrome ... it's just a wonderful thing. But our kitchen is pink and turquoise, with a turquoise range and oven. So we knew that an ideal fridge for the kitchen was a newer (late 60s) turquoise one. Our white fridge works great, but one of the greatest benefits to a newer upgrade is not having to defrost it 2-3 times a year.
Well, last year we finally found it! It was in wonderful shape, and we kept it in the garage unplugged for the last year until we were able to make the big switcherroony. The white fridge is SUPER HEAVY so we were kind of dreading making the move, but we knew that it had to go down into the basement behind the bar. We first bought it 15 years ago at a local estate sale, and we'd called this moving company -- this guy was a human machine, it was just him and his partner and they hauled it up themselves out of the basement of a house and got it on their truck. He was almost like Popeye or something! We called him again, and it was 15 years later, and he took one look at it and said that there was no way that he and my husband could safely bring it down the stairs. So we called two other strong friends to help. With the doors off, it took all four of these strong guys to muscle it down the stairs ... I was afraid to watch ... but after a lot of sweat and struggling, they did it! And the turquoise one went into the kitchen ... both fridges are very happy in their new homes. And so are we!
Merry Christmas everybody! Hope you all have a wonderful, vintage-filled 2022!
