Will be tearing into my Frigidaire ironer for some routine cleaning and maintenance (well assuming the unit is >60 years old think it is about time, *LOL*). Service manual calls for "Frigidaire Lubriplate #5870579 which supposedly comes (or came) in one pound cans.

Have had no such luck finding such a thing, but Frigidaire does sell small tubes of "Lubriplate" for greasing dryer bearings and the like. Is this the same or equal?

TIA.

L.

Launderess:

Lubriplate is a brand, not just one lubricant. Lubriplate products are used a lot for automobiles, sewing machines, gearcases and the like. They're often available through auto parts stores.

That having been said, I have always used white lithium grease on automotive applications where Lubriplate is specified, and have had no trouble. If you cannot find Lubriplate and are uncertain that lithium grease would be appropriate, you can get in touch with Lubriplate to find a distributor:

Thanks luv,

Just figured that out! *LOL*

Found "Lubriplate" in huge one pound cans but don't think will be needing that much. Well the worm gear casing takes a good 4/10th of a pound but still.

Will order a tube or two of Lubriplate and be done with it, can always use some for other purposes.

Now that one thinks about it the gear case on my portable Ironrite uses "Ironrite Grease" instead of the oil (for obvious reasons, the thing folds down for storage and the oil would leak out), so maybe the can might be necessary. *LOL*. Cannot find any service information on the Ironrite 890 series so have no idea how much grease is supposed to go into the box.
