no, not all 1-18 Custom Imperials were the same. The one Jimmy picked up yesterday is model WCI from 1975. It has a 3 speed motor.

This is my Harvest Gold 1977 1-18, model WCI-A, which has only a 2 speed motor.

Notice that the Hand Washables is gone and that there are two Delicate Cycles.

And you only have two agitate speeds - Normal & Gentle.

WCI was Washer Custom Imperial, not White Consolidated Industries. This was a GM made washer.

Whew Rich!! I have lost my mind, THAT should have been my first thought instead of panicking, but I seem to remember WCI did produce some pulsating 1-18s toward the end. Taht's probably what got me panicking.

Frigidaire

WCI never made pulsating washers, they were under a contract with GM where the factories remained when WCI bought Frigidaire in 1979. GM continued to produce the appliances until the end of 1980 when the contract was up. But during that time the appliances were still being made by GM. Never did WCI have the capabilities to make such quality appliances. Remember they only bought the name Frigidaire not the factories. They only kept it going for awhile. When WCI pulled the plug to get out General Moters shut it all down. And as we all know it should have shut the name also because that was the real Frigidaire.

Not WCI, as Rich said above its "Washer Custom Imperial" by GM.

Does that mean my WCI-58 was made by White Consolidated? /SMILES/S8.gif

Wow! that is one nice Imperial! Rich, you were so right about the lid instructions not being quite right for my Crown. Here is the pic of the one that is on there, looks like it was off a 3-speed Imperial. The guy I got it from told me he "switched" the front panel to match the dryer he traded along with the washer. (those 1-18's cost me my rare 1959 Kemore 80 set!) Now that I am investigaitng, it looks like he "switched" some other parts as well.. Darn it! Now I have to undo someone elses hacks!
Sorry for the rant, but I feel that these machines must be all original if they are going to truly represent what was available in the day.
If anyone has the proper window lid for the Harvest Gold Crown i'm restoring please let me know!
