Ben mentioned this detergent in a thread a couple of weeks ago, and I'd never heard of it. Naturally, I had to give it a try. Quite honestly, I didn't even realize the "Fuller Brush" company still existed. Ordered a box of the original powdered version from Amazon.
It wouldn't take much to convince me this is identical to Amway's SA8 detergent. Looks, smells, behaves, and cleans the same as SA8. In other words, it's fairly low-sudsing, rinses out better than most P&G (Tide, etc.) products-- even in soft water, and cleans all but tough stains well.
I didn't have time to make up the stained "test towels", but I did wash a load of very stained kitchen whites on the Sanitize cycle in the Frigidaire front-loader. The only stains left behind were of the tomato+grease variety. All other stains were completely removed, and without the aid of liquid chlorine bleach. I used the recommended 1/8 of a cup (two tablespoons) in the front-loader. 1/4 cup is recommended for top-loaders, and 1/2 cup is recommended in top-loaders in hard water.
Had bleach been added to the load (as I normally do) the pasta/barbecue sauces would have probably been completely removed.
Do I recommend the detergent? Due to the high cost (around 40 cents per load) I'd say no. The packaging is spartan, as well. You get a large twist-tied bag of detergent inside the box, which isn't exactly convenient to use. I put mine in a large Rubbermaid container for easier access.
If you want a decent-cleaning detergent with good rinsing qualities, go for the much less expensive Sears line. Otherwise, Wisk Deep Clean Original (for both HE and traditional washers) cleans impressively, as does the Tide With Bleach line.
Powdered Tide With Bleach HE and powdered Persil Bio (UK version) are still the champs in stain removal!
