Overlea Senior High School

My Homeroom and Home economics teacher,Mrs. Jackowicz, had no clew on how to use the "Mini Quick" cycle. She had never seen its "mini-Basket".I found it in storage along with the "Filter Flo"tray and the fabric softener dispenser.I showed her how to use it and she placed her dainty little dirty apron in it.We always used Dash and it came out spotless. I also showed her hw to use the P7 self cleaning oven, the automatic start and stop time programs and our GE Mobile Maid top loading, portable dishwasher. Most of the students in her class were valley girls and would pour Ivory liquid in the dishwasher and make lots of suds pour out.One day, during homeroom,I sneaked out to clean the erasers and switched the sugar to salt in the canister. The"girls" were making apple pie.As much as they hated to cook, the "girls"followed their recipes and the pies looked great. However, when Mrs. Jackowicz tasted their pies and noticed how tart and salty they were, they not only got an "E" but were put on detention for three days and had to write an essay on how to properly follow a recipe.

Our pies came out great and we not only got an "A" but were allowed to watch movies and go on 3 different field trips to different restaurants and deli's where we'd purchase our groceries and staples for our seperate kitchens.

The Baltimore Gas and Electric Company supplied the appliances every year for our 5 different kitchens. When I was in 11th grade, somehow there was a dissagreement between BG&E and my highschool. So,my school went to a local dealership(Rudolf's Appliance in Parkville,MD.) and purchased 5 full sets of FRIGIDAIRE appliances in Harvest Gold,Avacado green and Snowcrest white. They were all Custom Imperial and the laundry set was Harvest gold with a glass see through lid. Mrs J. said "I have never seen such an interesting means of agitation."I told her that it had been around 30 years(I went there from 1971 to 1974.)and not only got clothes clean but also spun them out better than any other brand. We also had the Touch-N-Cook range in two different styles one was free standing and the other was a drop in.The dishwasher was a FRIGIDAIRE top loading Dishmobile and got used more than the previous GE because it held more and got the dishes as well as the casseroles spotless.

Nice Stove Wow

I have Never seen that model G.E. before. I didn't even know they incorperated microwave tech into thier ovens before the speedcook (i may be mistaken by the model name) around 1997ish.

Freestanding range with microwave?

Now THAT is awesome.

I love the fact, Chuck, that you had to teach your home-ec teacher how to be a home economist ;-)

But points off for switching the sugar and salt--do you know what a bitch it is to make a good pie crust? ;-)

(Yes, I'm sure you do.)

Brian, This brings back memories. I went out and bought this machine for my grandmother, (She could not get out). This machine lasted over 20 years with no repairs. It was a daily driver for 2 sick people, (my grandparents), sheets, blankets etc. being washed every day. Plus loads of heavy drapes 2 times a year. I think in the end, after my uncle passed on, the machine only agitated on slow. When we sold the house, my mom replaced it with here GE Filter flow a much later model

Can you tell me when this machine was made. I know I went to the store to buy it, but I cannot remember the year.

Thanks,

Ray

This machine washed very well. It has an automatic soak cycle, then drained, the re-filled and washed. It has a detergent dispenser which fits on top of the filter basket which drops down during the spin out of the soak water. The extra rinse was great and also the long, long spray rinse.
