At the time these were made there was a strike or threat of one at the GE plant and so GE had Amana make some of these washers.

A man in Dongguan China a few years back tried organizing against govt. control and he was found crushed to death between a gravel truck and other equipment and gravel.
Seems to be a polarization between the haves and have not's, or have less.
The Teamsters used some violence as leverage back in the early days.
A local sewer line collapse near us recently is said by a few to be the fault of lazy union workers.
That line was worked on two years ago and cleared of any danger, but just after those workers pensions were reduced and taxed. One might say, one gets what one pays for. Inferior Speed Queen/Amana knock off made for GE? Speed Queen is union.
Two 90 degree angles make 180 degrees. Two 180's make 360, a full circle.
Are few masters because many are slaves, or are many slaves because few are masters? Two way street.

the gray splash shield tells you its a Raytheon built machine.....way before Alliance took over....these models were prone to the seal failures...

Alliance didn't build for anyone else, just Speed Queen or Huebsch only....
GE stretched out to a number of other manufacturers, even seen their names on Fridgemore FLers...

Actaully, it may have just been a threat,
I don't know if there actually was a strike, but there may have been the threat of one and GE did not want to be without product in case there was. I did see these at HD a few years ago, I don't think they were made for long.

These were also sold under the Maytag name, most ended up in the recycling stream within a few years. I brought one home from the discard pile behind Lowes one night and took it straight back the next morning.
Was looking behind Lowes one night and a guy pulled up ready to snatch a pair of these and asked if I thought they were still good. Hahaha. Nope, don't waste your time.

Even with the gray splashguard, I am not sure these were Raytheon built machines. I don't think these were on the market until around 2001 - 2002 or so and by that time Goodman already owned Amana. I could be wrong about that but I could swear that I saw the GE badged/Maytag badged models at a the HD around the time I was having main seal issues with my 18 month old Goodman built Amana. Either way those machines were losers and putting them on the market in the first place was just plain wrong.
Yeah, that looks like the belt-eating Raytheon Amana we bought in 1996.
One thing about the Amana compared to this GE is that the controls were far better designed. That GE panel is a hot mess.
